Robert Douglas Yates (born September 18, 1967, in Charlotte, North Carolina) is a race car engine builder, former NASCAR team owner, and mechanic. [1] He is the son of championship team owner and NASCAR Hall of Fame member Robert Yates and formerly operated Yates Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. [2] [1] Yates currently is the President and CEO of Roush Yates Engines, the primary builder of Ford engines in the top-two NASCAR series (NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series); as well as Ford Performance teams in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Series. Doug Yates grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, the hub for NASCAR. He graduated from North Carolina State University in 1990 with a degree in mechanical engineering and in 2015 was inducted into the NC State MAE (Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) Hall of Fame. [7] [8] [1] Yates worked in his father's race shop, Robert Yates Racing, in between semesters, then joined the organization full time in 1990 as the team's engine builder. [8] Yates built engines for drivers Davey Allison, Ernie Irvan, Dale Jarrett, among others. [4] [8] Yates engines won at various tracks including Daytona International Speedway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway and won the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series Championship with driver Dale Jarrett. [9] [8] In total, Yates won 56 races and three championships with Robert Yates Racing. [4]
In 2003, with the support from Ford, Robert and Doug Yates merged their engine departments with their rival Jack Roush of Roush Racing (now Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing) to form what is now Roush Yates Engines, with Doug Yates becoming CEO and President. [3] [7] [1] Roush Yates Engines is the exclusive Ford engine builder for NASCAR and builds over 900 engines annually in their 75,000 square-foot facility in Mooresville, North Carolina. [1] [6] Doug's father, Robert, retired from racing at the end of 2007, allowing Doug the opportunity to become the team owner of Yates Racing. [8] Yates fielded a car for drivers David Gilliland, Travis Kvapil, Paul Menard and Bobby Labonte. [10] Yates started Roush Yates Performance Parts in 2008, an outlet for new and used engine and chassis parts. In 2009, Yates Racing merged with Richard Petty Motorsports and Doug shifted his attention sole to Roush Yates Engines. [11] [8] He purchased his father's half of Roush Yates Engines in 2009 and became co-owner of the company with Jack Roush. [8] Since the start of the 2004 season, Roush Yates Engines has achieved over 380 combined overall wins (points and non-points) and 27 Championship titles in the NASCAR, IMSA (International Motor Sports Association) and FIA (Federation Internationale De LÁutomobile) series. In 2008, Doug Yates founded a new division of Roush Yates Engines, Roush Yates Manufacturing Solutions (RYMS) . [15] RYMS is a CNC advanced machining facility, which manufactures high performance engine components to support engine design, development and production. [16] In 2018, RYMS expanded their operations into an 88,000 square-foot facility in Mooresville, North Carolina. [17] Although rooted in motorsports and automotive industries, RYMS has breached out to CNC machining and manufacturing components for the aerospace, defense, medical and industrial industries. Travis Wade Kvapil is an American professional stock car driver. He last competed part-time in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series, driving the No. 1 Chevrolet Silverado for Beaver Motorsports.
Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing, doing business as RFK Racing, is an American professional stock car organization that currently competes in the NASCAR Cup Series. One of NASCAR's largest racing teams in the 2000s and early 2010s, Roush formerly ran teams in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series, Trans-Am Series and IMSA Camel GT. The team currently fields the No. 6 Ford Mustang Dark Horse full-time for driver/co-owner Brad Keselowski and the No. 17 Mustang full-time for Chris Buescher as well as the No. 60 part-time for multiple drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Front Row Motorsports (FRM) is an American professional stock car racing team that currently competes in the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The team began running part-time in 2004 as Means-Jenkins Motorsports under a partnership with Jimmy Means and restaurant entrepreneur Bob Jenkins, with Jenkins becoming the full team owner in 2005. In the Cup Series, FRM currently fields two Ford Mustang Dark Horse teams full-time: The No. 34 for Michael McDowell and the No. 38 for Todd Gilliland as well as the No. 36 part-time for Kaz Grala. In the Truck Series, they field the No. 38 Ford F-Series for Layne Riggs.
Roush Racing: Driver X was a television show on the Discovery Channel that documented the selection of NASCAR drivers for Roush Racing. During occasional years, Jack Roush, the owner of Roush Racing, auditioned drivers from around the world to hire a driver in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. This audition was informally known as The Gong Show. In 2005, the Discovery Channel decided to film and air these tests as Roush Racing: Driver X. The show aired every Monday at 7:00 p.m. EST and at 11:00 p.m. EST/6:00 p.m. CST and at 10:00 p.m. CST on the Discovery Channel.
James Robert Yates was a NASCAR engine builder and former owner of the Sprint Cup Series team Yates Racing, owned since 2007 by his son Doug. He purchased the team from Harry Ranier in 1988, with driver Davey Allison. In 2018, Yates was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Todd T. Parrott is an American stock car racing crew chief who works for Fast Track Racing as the crew chief of their No. 11 car driven by Zachary Tinkle full-time in the ARCA Menards Series East and part-time in the ARCA Menards Series. He is most well-known for his long tenure as a NASCAR Cup Series crew chief at Robert Yates Racing crew chiefing Dale Jarrett's No. 88 Ford. The duo won 27 races together as well as the 1999 NASCAR Winston Cup Series championship.
TriStar Motorsports was an American professional stock car racing team that used to compete in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The team competed in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series primarily during the early to mid 1990s, suspending racing operations in 1997 and continuing on as Tri-Star Motors, and later Pro Motor Engines, supplying engines to many NASCAR teams prior to returning to competition in 2010.
Yates Racing was an American stock car racing team that competed in NASCAR through the 2009 season, after which it merged into Richard Petty Motorsports. Previously known as Robert Yates Racing, the team was owned by Doug Yates, who has officially owned the team since his father Robert's retirement on December 1, 2007. The Yates family owned the team since purchasing it from Harry Ranier and J. T. Lundy in October 1988.
Wood Brothers Racing is an American professional stock car racing team that currently competes in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team was formed in 1950 by brothers Ray Lee, Clay, Delano, Glen, and Leonard Wood. Today, it is owned by the children and grandchildren of Glen Wood -- Len Wood, Eddie Wood, Kim Hall, Jon Wood, Jordan Hicks, and Keven Wood. From 2006 to 2008, the team was merged with Tad and Jodi Geschickter's JTG Racing. The Wood Brothers Racing Team holds the unique distinction of being the oldest active team in NASCAR, having fielded cars since 1950. They are known for their long relationship with Ford Motor Company, and the long-standing use of the number 21 on their main car. The team currently fields the No. 21 Ford Mustang full-time for Harrison Burton and has a technical alliance with Team Penske.
Akins Motorsports, formerly Akins-Sutton Motorsports was a NASCAR team based in Mooresville, North Carolina, which is near Charlotte. The team was formed in 1992 by Brad Akins, owner of several car dealerships in Georgia and team pit crew member, and Bob Sutton who served as the team's financial manager. At the time the team was sold to Braun Racing in 2006, it was owned by longtime team general manager Doug Stringer. The team was known for its Great Clips-sponsored #38 team in the Busch Series, which was later fielded by Braun Racing and Turner Scott Motorsports.

Ryan Austin Payton Reed is an American professional stock car racing driver and driver coach. He last competed part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, driving the No. 66 Chevrolet Camaro for MBM Motorsports. After Roush closed down their Xfinity Series team after the 2018 season, Reed has mostly been without a ride in NASCAR since then and while in that situation, Reed has worked since 2020 as the driver coach for Jack Wood, who competes full-time in the ARCA Menards Series.
JGL Racing was an American professional stock car racing team that last competed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The team was based in Denver, North Carolina. The team last fielded the No. 24 for Kaz Grala and No. 28 for Dylan Lupton and Tony Mrakovich.
The 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series was the 35th season of the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the second-tier professional stock car racing series sanctioned by NASCAR in the United States. The season started at Daytona International Speedway on February 20 and ended at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November 19. Daniel Suárez of Joe Gibbs Racing won the championship, becoming the first non-American to win a title in NASCAR's top 3 divisions.
Dale Earnhardt, Inc. (DEI) is a museum in Mooresville, North Carolina. Formerly a race team founded by Dale Earnhardt and his wife, Teresa Earnhardt, it competed in the NASCAR Cup Series, the highest level of competition for professional stock car racing in the United States, from 1998 to 2009. Earnhardt was a seven-time Winston Cup champion who died in a crash on the final lap of the 2001 Daytona 500. Despite his ownership of the DEI racing team, Earnhardt never drove for his team in the Winston Cup; instead, he raced for his long-time mentor and backer Richard Childress at RCR. In the late-2000s, DEI suffered critical financial difficulties after drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Michael Waltrip, and sponsors Anheuser-Busch, National Automotive Parts Association and United States Army left the team; DEI consequently merged with Chip Ganassi Racing in 2009, moving their equipment into the latter's shop, while the former's closed down. Chip Ganassi Racing's NASCAR operations was subsequently purchased by Trackhouse Racing Team in 2021.
Founded in 1988, the NASCAR program is built around having multiple cars and providing engine, engineering and race car build services to other NASCAR teams fielding Ford branded vehicles. The multi-team aspect of the company allows for information and resources to be shared across the enterprise, improving the performance of all of the teams. Since the 2004 season, engines for the cars have been provided by Roush-Yates Engines, a partnership between Roush Fenway Racing and now-closed rival Yates Racing, with Doug Yates as head engine builder. Roush-Yates also provides engines, cars and parts to other Cup teams, including Wood Brothers Racing, Team Penske, Stewart-Haas Racing, and Front Row Motorsports.
Roush Fenway Racing's Xfinity Series operation began in 1992 with the No. 60 driven by Mark Martin. The No. 60 team has been dominant throughout its history, amassing many wins with Martin; three driver's championships with Greg Biffle in 2002, Carl Edwards in 2007, and Chris Buescher in 2015; and an owner's championship with Edwards in 2011. The No. 6 team won back-to-back driver's championships in 2011 & 2012 with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Following the departures of Ryan Reed, Chase Briscoe, and Austin Cindric, Roush's Xfinity program was closed following the 2018 season.

Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) was an American professional stock car racing team that competed in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team was founded as a result of the merger between Gillett Evernham Motorsports (GEM) and Petty Enterprises, with former Montreal Canadiens and Liverpool F.C. owner George Gillett having a controlling interest in the organization. In late 2009, the team merged with Yates Racing and consequently switched to Ford for the 2010 season. Evernham had no involvement in the team by this time.
