Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College (YSPGMC) Nahan is medical college located in Nahan, Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. [1] It is a renowned medical institution established in 2016 as a third medical college in Himachal Pradesh followed by IGMC Indra Gandhi Medical College, Shimla and RPGMC,Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Kangra. YSPGMC, college is named after first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar.

History:

The college's foundation stone was laid by then Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, on November 6, 2016. [2] to address the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals in the state, YSPGMC was established to contribute significantly to medical education and healthcare delivery. [3] [4] The initial intake of the college was 100 MBBS seats which was subsequently increased to existing intake of 120.

Academic Programs:

YSPGMC offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses, including the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program and various specialties at the postgraduate level. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of medical sciences, emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Courses offered are as below:

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) : A total of 120 students are admitted to the MBBS program, and the selection process is carried out through NEET, with 15% of the seats being reserved for the All India Quota. After the NEET Cut Offs are declared, the AMRU starts the admission and counselling process for students on behalf of YSPGMC. [5]

General Nursing and Midwifery : Every year, Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College witnesses the enrollment of 30 dedicated and aspiring students into its General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) program. [5]

Post Graduation, Community Medicine :

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved three seats for PG in Community Medicine in YSPGMC. [6]

Campus and Facilities:

Situated in the town of Nahan, the Government Hospital is converted to a medical college. The college features well-equipped laboratories, lecture halls, and latest medical technology. Hostel Facility is available for girls and boys for MBBS students, hostels are located 4 KM away from the Medical College.

The standard entry-to-practice degree in modern evidence-based medicine in India is the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Alternative systems of Medicine in India are Ayurveda (BAMS), Unani (BUMS), Siddha(BSMS), Homeopathy (BHMS). M.B.B.S. a credential earned upon completion of a five-and-a-half-year undergraduate program. The curriculum is divided into one year of preclinical studies in general science subjects and three and a half years of paraclinical and clinical studies, followed by a one-year clinical internship. Before beginning the internship, students are required to pass several examinations, the final one of which is conducted in two parts. After that a person can further get a degree in superspeciality in his or her respective branch after successful completion of 3 years of superspeciality in a medical college.

Government Medical College and Hospital, Sundargarh, established in 2022, is a government medical college and hospital. The Government medical college and hospital Sundargarh is located at the village of Sankara with a well developed 21 acres campus.
