Dragomir A. Cioroslan (born 15 May 1954) is a former three-time Olympian, Olympic bronze medalist middleweight weightlifter born in Romania. He has lived in the United States since 1990.
He competed at the 1976, 1980, and 1984 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1984. Cioroslan won 10 national championships titles in his native Romania from 1974 to 1983. [2] [4] Besides weightlifting he participated in bodybuilding competitions. Between 1985 and 1990 he served as deputy secretary general and national coaching director of the Romanian Weightlifting Federation. In 1990 Cioroslan moved to the United States and worked as national resident program coach from 1990 to 2003. From 1993 to 2003 Cioroslan served as USA Weightlifting's national coach at World Championships, 1993–2003, Pan American Games coach in 1995 and 1999 as well as USA Weightlifting's head Olympic team coach at 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games. He served on the USOC Sport Science and Technology from 1993 to 2003.
In 2006 Cioroslan was named to the position of Director of International Strategies and Development at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee. In 1998 Cioroslan co-authored the book Banish Your Belly, Rodale Press, with Kenton Robinson. From 1998 to 2009 Cioroslan was a contributing writer to the Encyclopædia Britannica, Britannica Book of the Year. [5] [3]
Peter Jonathan Westbrook was an American saber fencer. He was a 13-time national and 3-time Pan American Games saber champion, and an Olympic bronze medalist. He was also the founder of the Peter Westbrook Foundation (PWF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit that uses fencing as a vehicle to help young people from under-served New York City communities develop life and academic skills. Peter Westbrook died on November 29th, 2024 in Manhattan, New York from liver cancer. He was 72 years old.
Béla Károlyi was a Romanian and American gymnastics coach of Hungarian origin. Early in his coaching career he developed the Romanian centralized training system for gymnastics. One of his earliest protégés was Nadia Comăneci, the first Olympic Games gymnast to be awarded a perfect score. Living under the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu, Károlyi frequently clashed with Romanian officials. He and his wife defected to the United States in 1981.
Dae Sung Lee is a Korean-American master of taekwondo who holds the rank of 7th dan. Lee is a 10-time US national taekwondo team member and two-time Olympic coach. He served as taekwondo coach for the US Summer Olympic team in 1992.

Kerry R. McCoy is an American wrestler and executive director and head coach of the Lehigh Valley Wrestling Club regional training center. He competed at the Olympic Games twice and four times at the World Cup Championships. In college, he was a three-time NCAA All-American and a two-time NCAA National Champion. He was the head coach of the University of Maryland's wrestling program for eleven years, stepping down in 2019. In 2014, McCoy was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member.
Judy Glenney is an American National Weightlifting Champion and former IWF referee and coach. She is noted for her influence as a pioneer in women's weightlifting. Glenney has been recognized as the strongest woman in history based on her accomplishments throughout her career in professional competitive powerlifting.
Wesley ("Wes") T. Barnett is an American Olympic weightlifter. He competed for the United States at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona and at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Barnett is USA Weightlifting junior, collegiate, and senior national champion, and earned silver and bronze medals in 1997 at the World Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Timothy McRae is a former Olympic weightlifter for the United States. His coach was Dragomir Cioroslan. He currently coaches Weightlifting at New Smyrna Beach High School.
Doug Beal is an American former volleyball player and coach, a former USA Volleyball CEO, and a member of the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
Nicolae "Nicu" Vlad is a retired heavyweight weightlifter from Romania. He competed for Romania at the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics and won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal. He won the world title in 1984, 1986 and 1990 and European title in 1985 and 1986 and set world records in the snatch in 1986 and 1993. Between 1991 and 1996, he lived in Australia and competed for it internationally. In 2006, he was elected member of the International Weightlifting Federation Hall of Fame. He is still especially noteworthy for achieving the heaviest-ever snatch of double-bodyweight—lifting 200.5 kg in the 100 kg class.
The Bay State Games are an Olympic-style athletic event for amateur athletes in the state of Massachusetts, which includes several divisions and allows athletes of all ages to compete. The Games are divided into Summer and Winter Games. The Summer Games include 25 sports and are usually held in late July. The Winter Games include three different sports and are usually held in late January or early February. The Bay State Games is a member of the National Congress of State Games. Tim Thackrey is a retired taekwondo athlete for the USA & current strength & conditioning coach for Olympians & professional athletes. He was a seven-time US National Team Member in the flyweight class from 2000 through 2007. Notably, he won a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games and a bronze medal at the 2003 World Championships. He was a resident athlete at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO from 2001 to 2003. In 2006, he was named USA Taekwondo's Male Athlete of the Year.
Dmitri Vladimir "Dima" Poliaroush is a Belarusian gymnastics coach and former competitive trampolinist. He is a six-time World Champion, seven-time European Champion, and twenty-time World Cup winner. He competed at the 2000 Summer Olympics and the 2004 Summer Olympics, finishing fifth and fourth respectively. Poliaroush was the first man to perform a “Double Full In – Double Full Out” on trampoline and the skill is named after him. He is the only person who has been an active trampolinist and trampoline coach at the Olympic Games.
István Javorek is a United States sports conditioning coach. Coach Javorek is the retired head strength and conditioning coach at Johnson County Community College, Kansas, United States. He supervised the strength and conditioning program for JCCC’s 18 sports and serves as a professor emeritus of fitness in the physical education department. He has been married to Julia Javorek since 1968, and they have one child, Dr. Henriette A. Javorek. He now lives in Overland Park, Kansas. He is the new strength and conditioning coach at Overland Park racquet club.
Carissa Gump is an American weightlifter. She is a multiple-time American record holder, a five-time consecutive American Open champion (2002–2006), and a resident athlete of the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is also the wife of Jason Gump, a competitive weightlifter who placed fifth for the 94 kg class at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
James Matthew Gruenwald is a retired amateur American Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's lightweight category. He won three U.S. national titles, picked up a bronze medal in the 60-kg division at the 2003 Pan American Games, and represented the United States in two editions of the Olympic Games, finishing sixth in Sydney and tenth in Athens respectively. Since his sporting career ended in late 2004, Gruenwald served as an assistant coach for the Greco-Roman wrestling team at the United States Olympic Training Center in Marquette, Michigan from 2005 - 2009, and currently, heads the Wheaton College wrestling program in Illinois.
The Madison Curling Club (MCC) is a curling club located in McFarland, Wisconsin, United States. MCC was the third-largest curling club in the United States with 570 members as of February 2014. The club had 590 members for the 2019-2020 season.

James Schmitz is an American weightlifting coach from Ukiah, California. He coached the U.S. Olympic Weightlifting team in 1980, 1988, 1992. He also served as the President of USA Weightlifting from 1988 to 1996, and was a member of the International Weightlifting Federation's Executive Board from 1992 to 1996. Throughout his career as a coach, he has coached over 10 Olympians over a total of 7 consecutive Olympic Games. Notably, he coached American weightlifter Mario Martinez, who won a silver medal in the super-heavyweight division at the 1984 Olympics. He was also a frequent writer for Milo magazine, and is known for naming the exercise now known as the "Romanian Deadlift".
