Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. The 1934 film Sati Sulochana directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and was the first motion picture screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. The film was produced by Chamanlal Doongaji, who in 1932 founded South India Movietone in Bangalore.
Jaggesh is an Indian politician, actor, director and producer, who works in the Kannada film industry. He is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka since 2022 and the spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka.
Komal Kumar, known mononymously as Komal, is an Indian actor and film producer known for his work in Kannada cinema. He made his acting debut with Super Nan Maga in 1992. Since his debut, Komal has acted in over 100 films, initially in comedic roles as a supporting actor before playing lead roles. He is the younger brother of actor Jaggesh, with whom he has frequently collaborated professionally.
Girija, known by her screen name Shruti, is an Indian actress, television personality and politician. As an actress, she predominantly appears in Kannada film industry. She is currently serving as chief secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party's women's wing in its Karnataka cadre.
Sharmiela Mandre is an Indian actress and producer who primarily works in Kannada films. She made her acting debut with Sajni (2007) and then received success with Krishna, the same year. Mandre turned producer with the Tamil film Evanukku Engeyo Matcham Irukku (2018).
Rakesh Bedi is an Indian film, stage and television actor. He is known for his comic roles in films such as Mera Damaad and Chashme Buddoor (1981). He has also appeared in television shows like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984), Shrimaan Shrimati (1994-1997), Yes Boss (1999–2009) and Bechara Big B (2005).
Double Decker is a 2011 Kannada comedy film starring Jaggesh,Shraddha Arya and Siya Gautham. The film has been directed and written by director Victory Vasu and produced by Sreenivas. Jayapaul has composed the soundtrack and the background score. The film was released on 22 April 2011. The film is a remake of Govinda and Raveena Tandon starrer Hindi film, Sandwich.
Bodyguard is a 2011 Indian Kannada-language romance comedy action film starring Jaggesh and Daisy Shah. The film is directed by Isaiah. Parimala Jaggesh, wife of Jaggesh is producing this film jointly with him under Gururaja films banner. Vinayachandra has composed the music and Ashok V. Raman has handled the camera work. Also, edited by Enzo, Fill, and Jerry. The film is a remake of the 2010 Malayalam film Bodyguard.
Neer Dose is a 2016 Indian Kannada-language black comedy film produced by T. Goswami and Shashikala Balaji, written and directed by Vijaya Prasad. It stars Jaggesh and Hariprriya alongside Suman Ranganathan and H. G. Dattatreya. It was one of the most highly acclaimed films of 2016.
Yaare Neenu Cheluve is a 1998 Indian Kannada-language romantic drama film directed by D. Rajendra Babu and produced by Rockline Venkatesh. The film stars Ravichandran, Sangita and Heera Rajagopal. Popular actors such as Vishnuvardhan, Ramesh Aravind, Jaggesh and Prakash Raj are seen in special appearances in the film.
Kanasina Rani is a 1992 Indian Kannada language film directed by M. S. Rajashekar and produced by M. Sunanda and M. Krishna under the banner Sri Lakshmi Productions. The film stars Malashri, Shashikumar and Jaggesh. The supporting cast features Thriveni, K. S. Ashwath, Thoogudeepa Srinivas, Girija Lokesh, Tennis Krishna and Vajramuni.
Vaastu Prakaara is a 2015 Indian Kannada language satirical comedy film directed by Yogaraj Bhat starring Rakshit Shetty, Jaggesh, Aishani Shetty and Parul Yadav. The supporting cast features Anant Nag, Sudha Rani, T. N. Seetharam and Sudha Belawadi. The film deals in the belief of Indians in astrology and superstition and how it is being blindly followed and overlooked over science.
Bullet Basya is a 2015 Indian Kannada comedy film directed by Jayatheertha, and stars Sharan and Haripriya. The supporting cast features Rangayana Raghu, Sadhu Kokila and Yathiraj Jaggesh. The title of the film was taken from Sudheer's character in the 1989 Kannada film C.B.I. Shankar. The creators however confirmed that there was no connection between the two.
Hemanth Subramanya known by his stage name as Hemanth, is a playback singer in Kannada cinema.
Mari Kannu Hori Myage also spelled as Maari Kannu Hori Myage is a 1998 Indian Kannada-language comedy film starring Jaggesh, Archana, Utthara and Dheerendra Gopal. The film written and directed by Kumar was named after a famous track from the Kannada film A released in the same year. The movie humorously deals with the troubles of a man from a middle-class family who becomes the victim of a slight misunderstanding. The film edited by T. Shashikumar has soundtrack scored by Rajesh Ramanath and cinematography handled by Sundarnath Suvarna. The film upon release met with positive reception.
Bhanda Nanna Ganda is a 1992 Indian Kannada film directed by Raj Kishor. In this film Jaggesh played his first lead role, and sung his first song ′Anthintha Gandu Nanalla′ in his career.
Makeup is a 2002 Indian Kannada-language comedy film directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao and starring Jaggesh in dual getups and Laila Patel. It was released on 3 October 2002.
Nannaseya Hoove is a 1999 Indian Kannada-language comedy drama film directed by E. Channagangappa and starring Jaggesh and Monica Bedi.
Lift Kodla is a 2010 Indian Kannada-language comedy drama film directed by Ashok Kashyap and starring Jaggesh and Komal. It is a remake of the Telugu-language film Mee Sreyobhilashi (2007), which itself is based on the Japanese film Ikinai (1998). The film deals with the topic of suicides and was released a day after television actors Indudhar and Hema committed suicide. The film was a box office success and ran for more than four weeks in theatres.
