Vijaya Karnataka is a Kannada newspaper published from a number of cities in Karnataka. [3] The newspaper is published from Bengaluru, Hubballi, Mangaluru, Shivamogga, Kalaburagi, Gangavathi, Belagavi, Davanagere, Hassan, Chitradurga. It was started by VRL group, headed by entrepreneur and politician, Vijay Sankeshwar in October 1999. The newspaper along with sister publications (Vijay Times) was purchased by the Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd., publishers of India's leading newspaper, The Times of India in 2006. [4]

In the March 28, 2020 edition of Vijaya Karnataka, It criticised the Muslim community and blamed it for the spread of the corona virus. The Campaign Against Hate Speech stated that it approached the Press Council of India since such articles created an environment of hate against Muslims and this hate translated into real-life violence against the members of the community. [5]

The Press Council of India has issued a bailable warrant against the editor of Vijaya Karnataka, for not appearing for proceedings in a hate speech complaint against an article published by the newspaper. [6]

Vartha Bharati also spelled as Vartha Bharathi is a Kannada daily News paper published simultaneously from Bangalore, Mangalore and Shimoga. It was launched in August 2003. Its main focus was to provide voice and due representation to the deprived and marginalised sections of the society. Janapith and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr.U.R.Anantha Murthy was a great admirer and a regular contributor to this newspaper. Once, in a public meeting he called vartha bharati "The Guardian of Karnataka. The Guardian is the best and most honest newspaper of England, and has created a revolution in the whole of its nation. In the same way, Vartha Bharathi is Karnataka's Guardian," he lauded. Abdussalam Puthige, the editor-in-chief of Varthabharati was inspired by veteran journalist Vaddarse Raghuram Shetty, who had launched Mungaru Kannada daily back in 1984. Mungaru was well known for its generous policy of providing fair representation to all castes, communities and sections of the society. It left a significant mark in the history of Kannada journalism by identifying and nurturing several talents from Dalit, Muslim, Christian and Backward Communities. Numerous well-known Kannada leftist, social activists and Dalit ideologues including U. R. Ananthamurthy, U. B. Banakar, Dr. Niranjan Aradhya, write regularly for the paper.

Karavali Ale, meaning "Coastal Waves" in Kannada, is a local Kannada daily newspaper published in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. The publication is owned and managed by its founders B. V. Seetaram and Rohini S. It is edited by Sathish N. Vaidya.

Ravi Belagere Indian journalist, editor, writer

Ravi Belagere was a writer and journalist based in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. He was the editor of Kannada language tabloid Hai Bangalore and fortnightly magazine O Manase. He founded Bhavana Prakashana, Prarthana School and Bhavana Audio Reach.

The hate speech laws in India aim to prevent discord among its many ethnic and religious communities. The laws allow a citizen to seek the punishment of anyone who shows the citizen disrespect "on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other ground whatsoever". The laws specifically forbid anyone from hurting religious sentiments of any particular groups.

Vishweshwar Bhat is a journalist in Karnataka, India and a well known writer in Kannada language. He was the editor of Vijaya Karnataka and Kannada Prabha newspapers and the television channel Suvarna News. He started a media house in Karnataka by name Vishwakshara Media Pvt. Ltd. as Managing Director with well known Jewellery business man Sri KP Nanjundi as Chairman of the group. He is the Editor in Chief of the proposed Kannada daily Vishwavani which was relaunched on 15 January 2016 all over Karnataka, prior to which it was being published and circulated only in Hubballi, headed by renowned Kannada writer Patil Puttappa. Viswavani completed its 3rd anniversary on January 16, 2020. Vishweshwar Bhat is a recipient Zee Kannada Hemmeya Kannadiga Awards to felicitate achievers in respective fields. He was also the recipient of Rajyotsava Awards conferred by Government of Karnataka for his achievements as journalist in the year 2005.

Akbaruddin Owaisi is an Indian politician and leader of AIMIM legislative party in Telangana Legislative Assembly and an MLA of the Telangana Legislative Assembly. He is a member of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and is its floor leader in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.

Vishwavani daily has around 56 years of history, published by Patil Puttappa from Hubballi. Vishweshwar Bhat is the managing director and chief editor of the news paper. The tag line on its masthead is " Vishwasave Vishwa". Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the revamped edition on 15 January 2016.

Gauri Lankesh

Gauri Lankesh was an Indian journalist-turned-activist from Bangalore, Karnataka. She worked as an editor in Lankesh Patrike, a Kannada weekly started by her father P. Lankesh, and ran her own weekly called Gauri Lankesh Patrike. She was assassinated outside her home in Rajarajeshwari Nagar on 5 September 2017. At the time of her death, Gauri was known for being a critic of right-wing Hindu extremism. She was honoured with Anna Politkovskaya Award for speaking against right-wing Hindu extremism, campaigning for women's rights and opposing caste based discrimination.

Prithveesh K. Bhat

Prithveesh K. Bhat or Prathvish K. Bhat is an Indian Rubik's Cube speedcuber and mosaic artist. He has set several Rubik's Cube records, including two Guinness World Records namely ′Largest Dual Sided Rubik’s Cube Mosaic′, leading a team of 20 members and ′Most contributions to a Rubik's cube mosaic′, leading a team of 293 people.

OpIndia Indian right-wing pro-Hindutva news portal

OpIndia is an Indian right-wing news portal founded in 2014 by Rahul Raj and Kumar Kamal. The website has published fake news and anti-Muslim commentary on multiple occasions, including a 2020 incident in which it falsely claimed that a Hindu boy was sacrificed in a Bihar mosque.

Anand Audio

Anand Audio is an Indian music record label company in Karnataka. It is primarily known for publishing and marketing Sandalwood cinema sound tracks.

Bhaskar Shetty was a well-known businessman from Udupi, who has business in Saudi Arabia and a hotel in Udupi, a resident of Indrali Udupi was murdered on July 28, 2016 allegedly for property issues. The murder was one of the sensational cases which occurred in history of Twin districts of Mangalore and Udupi. Shetty's murder has a strong resemblance with the infamous Sheena Bora murder case in Maharashtra.
