Phulchhab is the Gujarati daily published from Rajkot, Gujarat, India. [1] It was founded in 1921 as a Saurashtra weekly. Saurashtra newspaper shifted to Rajkot in 1950 and its name changed to Phulchhab. Zaverchand Meghani, Amritlal Sheth, Kakkalbhai Kothari and many more dignities established truthful daily in Saurashtra region.

Mr. Zaverchand Meghani, Himmat bhai Parekh, Mr. Harsukhbhai Sanghani were the powerful editors of Phulchhab. The role of Phulchhab at the time before independence was very important. Phulchhab is a daily of Janmabhoomi Group of Newspapers. Its slogan is "Saurashtra ni Vichardhara". As of 2018, the Managing Editor is Mr. Kundanbhai Vyas, Editor is Kaushik Mehta and Manager is Narendra Ziba.

Its columnists include well known writers including Nagindas Sanghvi, Kundan Vyas, Kaushik Mehta, Bhadrayu Vachhrajani, Vipul Rathod, Yashpal Baxi, Kajal Oza Vaidhya, Sanjay Chhel, and Soli Kapadiya.

Jhaverchand Meghani Indian poet, writer, social reformer and freedom fighter

Jhaverchand or Zaverchand Kalidas Meghani was an Indian poet, writer, social reformer and freedom fighter. He is a well-known name in the field of Gujarati literature. He was born in Chotila where the Government College has been renamed for this literary as Raashtreeya Shaayar Zaverchand Meghani College, Chotila. Mahatma Gandhi spontaneously gave him the title of Raashtreeya Shaayar. Besides this he received many awards like Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak and Mahida Paaritoshik in literature. He authored more than 100 books. His first book was a translation work of Rabindranath Tagore's called Kathaa-u-Kaahinee titled Kurbani Ni Katha which was first published in 1922. He contributed widely to Gujarati folk literature. He went from village to village in search of folk-lores and published them in various volumes of Saurashtra Ni Rasdhar. He was also the Editor of Phulchhab Newspaper of Janmabhoomi group.

Veer Hamirji - Somnath ni Sakhate is a Gujarati film released on 25 May 2012. The film did not perform well at the Gujarati box office as it stayed in the cinema for just one week. However, it was shortlisted for Indian submissions for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, making it the first ever Gujarati film to do so. Following the shortlisting, the movie was re-scheduled for a release in India, as well as in the United States in December 2012.

The Media in Gujarati language started with publication of Bombay Samachar in 1822. Initially the newspapers published business news and they were owned by Parsi people based in Bombay. Later Gujarati newspapers started published from other parts of Gujarat. Several periodicals devoted to social reforms were published in the second half of the 19th century. After arrival of Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian independence movement peaked and it resulted in proliferation of Gujarati media. Following independence, the media was chiefly focused on political news. After bifurcation of Bombay state, the area of service changed. Later there was an increase in readership due to growth of literacy and the media houses expanded its readership by publishing more number of editions. Later these media houses ventured into digital media also. The radio and television media expanded after 1990.

Janmabhumi (જન્મભૂમિ) is an Indian Gujarati-language evening daily newspaper, owned by the Saurashtra Trust. It is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharastra. Janmabhumi was launched in 1934 as an evening paper The newspaper publishes 10-12 pages every day, including an editorial page and an op-ed page. T he motto of the newspaper is ‘जननी जन्मभूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी’(Mother and motherland are superior to Heaven).

Jhaverchand Meghani Award Or Jhaverchand Meghani Folklore Award is a literary award which is given for notable contribution to the Gujarati folk literature. It was established by Jhaverchand Meghani Lok Sahitya Kendra, Saurastra University, Rajkot. It is named after Gujarati author Jhaverchand Meghani.
