Kalantar is a daily Bengali-language newspaper issued from Kolkata, India. It is the organ of the West Bengal State Council of the Communist Party of India. [1] It was published as a weekly newspaper since 1965; 'Kalantar' converted to a daily newspaper in the late 1960s. And have a separate weekly as it is. The header of the 'Kalantar' daily was designed by the legend film maker-artist Satyajit Ray himself. Among the early editors, veteran communist leader Somnath Lahiri, Bhabani Sen, Jyoti Dasgupta, Prabhat Dasgupta, Prof. Gautam Chattopadhyay were there. From the single-color edition it is now publishing as a four-color daily newspaper. In the autumn, Kalantar publish a festive 'Sharadiyo' edition in the book form as like as other daily newspapers in Kolkata. [2] [3]

Meghe Dhaka Tara is a 2013 Indian Bengali film directed by Kamaleswar Mukherjee and made under Shree Venkatesh Films banners. The film is inspired from the life and works of Bengali film director Ritwik Ghatak. The entire film is in black and white except the last scene which has been shot in colour. In this film Saswata Chatterjee plays the character of Nilkantha Bagchi and Ananya Chatterjee plays the role of Durga, Nilkantha's wife. The film was released on 14 June 2013. Besides giving an account of Ghatak's life, the film also depicts the socio-political environment of contemporary West Bengal during the Tebhaga and Naxalite movements.

Dipendranath Bandyopadhyay (1936–1979) was a Bengali writer, editor, correspondent and political activist. He reshaped Bengali prose writing in late 1950 to 1970, with his deft portrayal of love, protest and anger in post-independence Bengali milieu. Associated with left political activities as student, active member of the Bengal Provincial Student Federation (BPSF), the provincial branch of All India Students Federation (AISF) Dipendratnath was a narrator of the turbulent socio-political vortex of his time. He wrote 51 short stories, 5 novels - including one unfinished - and significant number of reportage or newspaper articles, during his short-lived creative period. Specially his reportages were popular in Bengali readers. Increased political and organisational activity reduced his literary activity which decreased to a trickle in his twilight years.
