The Print is an Indian online newspaper, owned by Printline Media Pvt Ltd. [1] It was launched by journalist Shekhar Gupta in August 2017. [2] [3]

History

Printline Media Pvt. Ltd, founded by journalist Shekhar Gupta, [2] was incorporated in New Delhi, India in 16th of September 2016. [1]

ThePrint is noted for focusing on politics and policy. [4] The venture is associated with the Off the Cuff programme that is broadcast on Aaj Tak and promoted on ThePrint's YouTube and Facebook channels. [5]

In May 2017, It has received an undisclosed amount of funding from N.R. Narayana Murthy, Nandan Nilekani, Ratan Tata, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Uday Kotak, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Rajiv C. Mody, Ravi Thakran, Bhavish Aggarwal, Nirmal Jain, R. Venkatraman, Karan Bhagat and Yatin Shah. [6] [7] [8]

Gupta, as his position in editor-in-chief, in a letter to readers stated the mission of the ThePrint was to be "factual and liberal". [9] ThePrint has claimed to commit to its code of ethics for journalists which it has published on its website. [10] [11]

Website

ThePrint, being a new media digital platform primarily publishes its news stories on its website with majority of coverage in the English language. The platform additionally has a Hindi language edition of the website as well. [12] The news coverage is divided into factual news reporting and opinion pieces.

Subscription

The website is primarily supported by digital ad revenue, however it allows one time donations and recurring subscription from patrons. [13]

Off The Cuff

Off The Cuff is a series of candid talk shows organized in collaboration with Aaj Tak and launched in February 2016, though recent editions have been online only editions hosted by ThePrint alone. [14] It hosts prominent personalities from across the spectrum in engaging conversations, some of its prominent guests being Amish Tripathi, Gita Gopinath, Martin Wolf and Francis Fukuyama. [15]

After a successful career at Infosys, he headed the Government of India's technology committee, TAGUP. He is a member of Indian National Congress but not active in politics as of 2019.

Sudha Murty is an Indian educator, author, and philanthropist. She is married to the co-founder of Infosys, N. R. Narayana Murthy. She is the Founder-Chairperson of the non-profit charitable organization Infosys Foundation. In 2024, Murty was nominated as Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha on 8 March 2024 for her contribution to social work and education. Murty was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, for social work by the Government of India in 2006. In 2023, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award in India.

Ratan Naval Tata was an Indian industrialist and philanthropist. Jagriti is a 1954 Indian Hindi-language film directed by Satyen Bose. It was based on the 1949 Bengali film Paribartan that Bose had also directed. The film stars Rajkumar Gupta, Abhi Bhattacharya, and Ratan Kumar in the lead roles. The film won the Filmfare Award for Best Film at the 3rd Filmfare Awards in 1956. Bhattacharya received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding performance in Jagriti at the same ceremony. Jagriti still considered one of the best children-centric films of India.

Cyrus Pallonji Mistry was an Indian-born Irish billionaire businessman. He was the chairman of the Tata Group, an Indian business conglomerate, from 2012 to 2016. He was the sixth chairman of the group, and only the second not to bear the surname Tata. In mid-2012, he was chosen by a selection panel to head the Tata Group and took charge in December that year. In October 2016, the board of Tata Group's holding company, Tata Sons, voted to remove Mistry from the post of chairman. Former chairman Ratan Tata then returned as interim chairman, and Natarajan Chandrasekaran was named as the new chairman a few months later. However, in December 2019, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) declared the appointment of Chandrasekaran as executive chairman illegal, and restored Mistry. However, the Supreme Court stayed NCLAT's order on 10 January 2020. Mistry had filed a cross-appeal in the court, seeking explanations for anomalies in the NCLAT. However, the Supreme Court upheld his dismissal.
