Yangon, formerly romanized as Rangoon, is the capital of the Yangon Region and the largest city of Myanmar. Yangon served as the capital of Myanmar until 2006, when the military government relocated the administrative functions to the purpose-built capital city of Naypyidaw in north central Myanmar. With over five million people, Yangon is Myanmar's most populous city and its most important commercial centre.
Win Tin was a Burmese journalist, politician and political prisoner. He co-founded the National League for Democracy (NLD). He was imprisoned by the military government for 19 years (1989–2008) for his writings and his leadership position in the NLD.
Naypyidaw, officially romanized as Nay Pyi Taw (NPT), is the capital and third-largest city of Myanmar. The city is located at the centre of the Naypyidaw Union Territory. It is unusual among Myanmar's cities in that it is an entirely planned city outside of any state or region. The city, previously known only as Pyinmana District, officially replaced Yangon as the administrative capital of Myanmar on 6 November 2005; its official name was revealed to the public on Armed Forces Day, 27 March 2006.
Khar Ra is a Burmese actor, model and singer of ethnic Shan-Chinese descent. He gained popularity after starring in the 2018 film Dimensions which brought him wider recognition.
The Myanmar Times, founded in 2000, is the oldest privately owned and operated English-language newspaper in Myanmar. A division of Myanmar Consolidated Media Co., Ltd. (MCM), The Myanmar Times published weekly English and Burmese-language news journals until March 2015, when the English edition began publishing daily, five days per week. Its head offices are in Yangon, with additional offices in Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw. As the announcement shown in the official website of this newspaper, it has stopped nine media services on 21 February 2021 primarily for three months. However, its services are still suspended till now.
Rebecca Win is a retired Burmese singer and model. She performed in the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Naypyidaw. Rebecca Win was a judge on the major televised singing competition Eain Mat Sone Yar and also Myanmar's Got Talent.
Rail transport in Myanmar consists of a 6,207.644 km (3,857 mi) railway network with 960 stations. The network, generally spanning north to south with branch lines to the east and west, is the second largest in Southeast Asia, and includes the Yangon Circular Railway which serves as a commuter railway for Yangon, the principal commercial city in Myanmar. The quality of the railway infrastructure is generally poor. The tracks are in poor condition, and are not passable during the monsoon season. The speed of freight trains is heavily restricted on all existing links as a consequence of poor track and bridge conditions. The maximum speed for freight trains has been quoted as 24 km/h (15 mph), suggesting that commercial speeds on this section could be as low as 12–14 km/h (7.5–8.7 mph).
Basic Education High School (BEHS) No. 6 Botataung, located a few miles east of downtown Yangon in Botataung township, is a public high school, and one of the oldest high schools in Myanmar. The school initially offered three kindergarten classes - Lower, Middle, Higher known as LKG, MKG, HKG and First through Tenth Standard. It now offers classes from kindergarten to Tenth Standard.
Yangon Circular Railway is the local commuter rail network that serves the Yangon metropolitan area. Operated by Myanma Railways, the 45.9-kilometre (28.5 mi) 39-station loop system connects satellite towns and suburban areas to the city. Circa 2008–2010, the railway had about 200 coaches, had 20 daily runs, and sold 100,000 to 150,000 tickets daily. The railway is heavily utilized by lower-income commuters, as it is the cheapest method of transportation in Yangon.
Nay Toe (Burmese: နေတိုး; pronounced[nètó]; born Nay Lin Aung is an Arakanese film actor and comedian with the Burmese traditional anyeint troupe Htawara Hninzi. He won Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards for Best Actor three times: in 2009 with Moe Nya Einmet Myu, in 2015 with Nat Khat Mhar Tae Tite Pwal and in 2017 with Tar Tay Gyi. He also won the Star Award for the film Bridge of Clouds in 2018. He is one of the highest-paid actors in Myanmar.
Any foreign national who wishes to enter Myanmar must obtain a visa unless they are a citizen of one of the designated visa-exempt countries.
Princess Hteik Su Phaya Gyi, also known as Su Su Khin or Pwar May or Princess Tessie, was a Burmese princess and the final surviving royal of the Konbaung dynasty. Daughter of Princess Myat Phaya Galay, she was a senior member of the Royal House of Konbaung.
Aye Wutyi Thaung, also known as Aye Thaung, is a Burmese film and television actress, singer and commercial model. She is one of the popular actresses around 2000s.
Angel Lamung is a Burmese actress, model and beauty pageant title holder of ethnic Kachin descent. She was crowned the Miss Intercontinental Myanmar 2014 and represented Myanmar at the Miss Intercontinental 2014.
A Linn Yaung is a Burmese actor, model and singer. He was nominated for the Best Actor award at the 2018 Myanmar Academy Award for his performance in the film The Bride.
Paing Takhon is a Burmese model, actor, and singer. He began his entertainment career in 2014 as a runway model. He is also one of the few Myanmar citizens with an international profile, given the country only began opening up to the outside world over the last decade.
San Yati Moe Myint is a Burmese actress and model. She is considered one of the most successful actresses in Burmese cinema and one of the highest-paid actresses. Throughout her career, she has acted in over 200 films.
Nyi Nyi Maung is a Burmese make-up artist turned actress after two decades-long experience in the Myanmar makeup industry. For decades she was known by the nickname Nyi Nyi Maung - San Chaung while working as a make-up artist, before her acting debut. Nyi Nyi Maung featured on The Myanmar Times "Top 10 Make-up artists" list in 2018.
A Nyein Phyu is a Burmese actress, model and dancer. She began her entertainment career as a dancer and had her breakthrough in films in 2013.
Chue Lay, formerly known as Nay Inzara (နေအဥ္ဇရာ) is a Burmese television and film actress of ethnic Rakhine descent who gained popularity after starring in the several MRTV-4 series. She has been nominated the Best Supporting Actress at the 2018 Myanmar Academy Awards for her performance in film Sign of Moe Pan Pwint.
