Drown in Sulphur is an Italian deathcore band, formed in 2014 by vocalist Mattia Maffioli, guitarists Simone Verde and Leonardo Sergio, bassist Mattia Rossi and drummer Domenico Tamilia, with only Tamilia remaining as a founding member. The band has released two EPs and three studio albums.
Formed in 2014, Drown in Sulphur released two EPs before drummer Domenico Tamilia fired most of the lineup, making "a hostile takeover of all of the band's social media accounts in 2019". Those members would then form their own band, Defamed. [1] Under a different lineup, Drown in Sulphur released its first full-length album, Sulphur Cvlt on 22 October 2021. [2] The album received mildly positive feedback, [3] and it has spawned music videos for "Vivant Tenebrae", [4] the title track, [5] and "The Crawling Chaos". [6]
The band's second album Dark Secrets of the Soul was released in January 2024, their first album with Scarlet Records. [7] The album was produced by Filippo Rambelli and Alex Pedrotti. [8] The album received many positive reviews. [9] [10] [11] [12] The band has released music videos for "Shadow of the Dark Throne", [13] "Eclipse of the Sun of Eden", [14] "Unholy Light", [15] [16] and "Lotus". [17] [18] [19] The band promoted the album with some concerts including a show in Modena on 6 April, 2024, with The Burning Dogma. [20]
The band released their third album Vengeance on 17 January 2025. [21] Music videos were released for "Absentia", [22] "Morningstar", [23] [24] [25] and the title track. [26] [27]
Drown in Sulphur and its material have been described as deathcore, [1] [3] [10] [11] [14] [15] [12] blackened deathcore, [8] [9] [20] [23] death metal, [2] [4] [5] [6] black metal, [10] [12] brutal death metal, [12] symphonic deathcore [13] and blackened death metal. [28]
