Duriel Hardy is an American distance runner, pediatric neurologist, and professor. He ran cross country and track for Brown University before attending Duke University Medical School. Hardy competed in the United States Olympic Trials Marathon in 2020 and 2024.
Hardy grew up in West Chester, Pennsylvania and attended West Chester East High School, graduating in 2006. He ran a 4:19 mile and placed in the top five at the Pennsylvania Cross Country Championships. [1] Hardy attended Brown University, where he lowered his mile time to 4:10 and qualified for the NCAA Championship in the 10,000 meters. [2]
Hardy attended medical school at Duke University from 2011 to 2015. During this time he ran 70 to 80 miles per week, often while listening to medical lectures. [3] He resumed his competitive running career in 2016, with a top five finish at the Philadelphia Rock n Roll Half Marathon. [4]
Hardy registered a time of 2:18:23 at the 2019 California International Marathon, which qualified him for the 2020 United States Olympic Trials (marathon) in Atlanta. He trained for the Olympic Trials while working as a pediatric neurologist for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, which often meant logging training runs at four in the morning. [5] [6]
At the 2020 Olympic Trials Marathon, Hardy placed 119th of 235 men in a time of 2:26:41. [7]
In June 2022, Hardy notched his career-best half marathon of 1:04:53 at the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in Duluth, MN. [4]
He returned to marathoning in 2023, recording a 2:17:58 time at the California International Marathon, which qualified him for the 2024 United States Olympic Trials (marathon) in Orlando. [4]
Hardy placed 99th of 200 men in the Olympic Trials in hot, sunny conditions. [8]
As of 2024, Hardy is an assistant professor of neurology at the University of Texas Dell Medical School, in addition to being a practicing physician. [9]
Hardy lives in Austin, Texas with his daughter and wife Christine, who has competed in three Olympic Trials Marathons. [10]
