Dust to Ashes is the debut studio album by American metalcore band Bleeding Through. It was released on compact disc by Prime Directive Records on March 20, 2001.
In December 2000, before Dust to Ashes was released, drummer Born departed in order to focus his energy into his other band Taken. [1] Bleeding Through recruited former Daggers drummer Derek Youngsma. [2] In late February 2001, bass guitarist Kumar hastily quit the band, only to resume his position in time for the album release show a month later. [3]
After releasing the album, the band played two shows with Detroit, Michigan metalcore band Walls of Jericho the following weekend. The first on Saturday, March 24, 2001 at the Veterans' Memorial Hall in Santa Cruz, California; [4] the second, the proper album-release show, on Sunday, March 25, 2001 at the Showcase Theater in Corona, California, supported by Eighteen Visions, Undying and The Kill. Following months of negotiations, Bleeding Through signed a three-release (two albums and one EP) contract with Huntington Beach, California-based record label Indecision Records in early April 2001. [5] [6] The company's first plan was to co-release the forthcoming 7" vinyl and CD EP with Prime Directive Records in the fall of 2001, followed by the band's sophomore full-length album in early 2002. [5]
In support of Dust to Ashes, Bleeding Through embarked on their first tour; a week's worth of shows with Throwdown on the West Coast. [6] A second tour ensued, which spanned from June 20, 2001 to July 6, 2001, [7] [8] Accompanied by roadie Graham Donath (owner of The Association of Welterweights Records) and Schieppati's other band Eighteen Visions, [6] which was promoting their third full-length album, The Best of Eighteen Visions , released on June 12, 2001 by Trustkill Records. [6] The two bands played through California, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, Montana, Iowa, Kentucky, Illinois and New York, including a performance at Hellfest 2001. [8] [6]
In August 2001, a month after returning from tour, Tafolla left the band. [9] Like the band's former drummer Born, Tafolla left to focus on his other band Taken. [9] Bleeding Through then recruited guitarist Brian Lepke and mostly played local California shows during the rest of the summer and early autumn 2001. [9]
Bleeding Through embarked on a ten-day West Coast tour with From Autumn to Ashes, who were promoting their album Too Bad You're Beautiful released by Ferret Music. [10] Four songs recorded for Dust to Ashes (including one that also appeared on their demo), "Turns Cold to the Touch", "Just Another Pretty Face", "Ill Part Two" and "I Dream of July", were re-recorded for Portrait of the Goddess . [10] The song "Shadow Walker" was later re-recorded for the band's third album, This is Love, This is Murderous . [10]

Poison the Well is an American metalcore band from Miami, Florida who were last signed to Ferret Music. In 2010, they announced a hiatus to explore other interests. Lead guitarist Ryan Primack and drummer Christopher Hornbrook were the only remaining founding members, although vocalist Jeffrey Moreira featured on all five of their full-length albums. The band has since performed several reunion shows: two in 2015, eleven in 2016 and one in 2020. Their albums have sold a combined total of over 300,000 copies in the United States as of 2012.
Bleeding Through is an American metalcore band from Orange County, California, formed in 1999. In 2004, Revolver magazine hailed Bleeding Through as one of eight bands ushering in the "Future of Metal" cover story, and Spin called Bleeding Through an "artist to watch" in the magazine's February 2004 issue.
Atreyu is an American metalcore band from Yorba Linda, California, formed in 1998. The band currently consists of clean vocalist Brandon Saller, guitarists Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel, bassist and unclean vocalist Marc "Porter" McKnight, and drummer Kyle Rosa.
Throwdown is an American heavy metal band from Orange County, California. Formed in 1997, the band has endured numerous lineup changes to the point where no original members remain. Throwdown has toured as part of Ozzfest, Sounds of the Underground, Hellfest, and Warped Tour, as well as with bands such as In Flames, Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying, Killswitch Engage, Korn and Cavalera Conspiracy. The songs "Forever" and "Burn" were staples on MTV2's Headbangers Ball and Revolver Magazine called them part of "The Future of Metal" after hearing the album Vendetta. Initially branded a hardcore punk band, albums like Venom and Tears and Deathless took a sharp turn towards metal, with critics likening the band's sound to that of Pantera and Sepultura. The band are straight edge.
Eighteen Visions is an American metalcore band from Orange County, California, formed in October 1995. The band broke up in April 2007, less than a year after their major label debut was released through Epic and Trustkill Records. After over a decade of absence, the band reformed in 2017. They announced their sixth album, XVIII, would be released via their new label home at Rise Records.
Every Time I Die was an American metalcore band from Buffalo, New York, formed in 1998. For most of the band's career, the line-up was centred on brothers Keith (vocals) and Jordan Buckley (guitar), as well as rhythm guitarist Andy Williams, with bassist Stephen Micciche also being in the band for a cumulative 15 of the bands 24 years. After spending the first decade of their career on the Ferret Music label, they signed with Epitaph Records in 2008 and remained there until their split in early 2022. Every Time I Die released nine studio albums, with their final album Radical being released in October 2021.
Alex Varkatzas is an American musician, best known as the former lead vocalist of metalcore band Atreyu from its inception in 1998 until his departure from the band in 2020. In 2011, during the band's hiatus, Varkatzas also started a hardcore project with Bleeding Through vocalist Brandan Schieppati named I Am War.
It Dies Today is an American metalcore band that formed in Buffalo, New York during September 2001. The band achieved popular success in 2004 with the release of their debut album, The Caitiff Choir. After frontman Nicholas Brooks departed in 2006, just after the release of the band's sophomore effort Sirens, It Dies Today released Lividity in 2009 before going on hiatus in 2010. The band reunited briefly for a show in 2012, but the reunion paused again in 2015. On December 22, 2022, It Dies Today was announced as an act appearing at FurnaceFest 2023.
Tear from the Red is the sophomore full-length album by American metalcore band Poison the Well. It was released on February 19, 2002 via Trustkill Records. The album was the band's first release to appear on Billboard's Independent Albums and Heatseekers Albums charts, in March 2002, and was responsible for landing Poison the Well a major record label deal. It also featured the band's first single and music video for "Botchla". The release received numerous reissues on various formats over the years through such record labels as Good Life Recordings, Roadrunner Records, Shock Records, Rise Records, Ides of March and Undying Music, and was digitally remastered in 2012.
The Opposite of December... A Season of Separation is the debut full-length album by American metalcore band Poison the Well. It was released on December 14, 1999. Influential in the early popularization of metalcore around the turn of the 21st century, the album was the band's first on Trustkill Records and is now recognized as a landmark album in the genre due to its quality and influence. The album was the band's first release to appear on CMJ's charts, reaching number 9 on the Loud Rock chart in May 2000. It had sold 30,000 copies by 2002. The release received numerous reissues on various formats over the years through such record labels as Good Life Recordings, Roadrunner Records, Shock Records and Rise Records and was digitally remastered in 2012.
Fractures in the Facade of Your Porcelain Beauty is the second EP by American metalcore band Atreyu. It was originally released on November 20, 2001, and released again on January 29, 2002, under the independent label Tribunal Records. The EP has early versions of the songs "Living Each Day Like You're Already Dead", "Someone's Standing on My Chest" and "Tulips Are Better", which were re-worked and included on the band's next release, Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses. The EP was released before the band's huge success following their first album and original pressings are increasingly hard to find. The vocalist, Alex Varkatzas, has a deeper approach to his screams on this album compared to Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses. The album is the first Atreyu release with Travis Miguel on rhythm guitar, as opposed to the Visions EP which only had the founding guitarist, Dan Jacobs.
Brandan Schieppati is an American musician. He is the singer of metalcore band Bleeding Through and a former guitarist/songwriter of the fellow Orange County metalcore band Eighteen Visions, for which he played from 1997 to 2002. He is also a bodybuilder, personal trainer and "Rise Above Fitness" gym owner. He was strictly straight edge from an early age until his late twenties.
This Is Love, This Is Murderous is the third studio album by American metalcore band Bleeding Through released in 2003. It is their Trustkill Records debut. It has sold more than 125,000 copies since its release.
Portrait of the Goddess is the second studio album by American metalcore band Bleeding Through. The album was released on April 30, 2002 through Indecision Records.
Vanity is the fourth full-length studio album, and seventh overall release, by American metalcore band Eighteen Visions. It was their first album to feature a music video, which was for "You Broke Like Glass". It was the last album to feature guitarist Brandan Schieppati as he left immediately after the recording of the album to focus on Bleeding Through. The band toured for the album with a single guitarist, Keith Barney. As of 2007, the album has sold over 100,000 copies in the United States.
Declaration is the fifth album by American metalcore band Bleeding Through. The song's titles are named after different states and cities. Frontman Brandan Schieppati commented, "There are definitely places when we're traveling where every time we go there, we're like, 'Fuck, why do we have to be here?' Like, we'll be in France and all of a sudden we'll feel totally insignificant. You get the feeling that people's eyes are just burning a hole through you."
Death by Stereo is an American hardcore punk band formed in Orange County, California circa 1998 by frontman Efrem Schulz. They are well known for their energetic performances and intricate guitar work. Their name can be attributed to the 1987 horror film The Lost Boys, in which Corey Haim speaks the line.
