Schieppati, who also was a member of Eighteen Visions, originally balanced playing with Eighteen Visions and Bleeding Through, recording the independent albums Dust to Ashes (2001) and Portrait of the Goddess (2002) before departing Eighteen Visions to focus on Bleeding Through.

The songs "Forever" and "Burn" were staples on MTV2's Headbangers Ball and Revolver Magazine called them part of "The Future of Metal" after hearing the album Vendetta. Initially branded a hardcore punk band, albums like Venom and Tears and Deathless took a sharp turn towards metal, with critics likening the band's sound to that of Pantera and Sepultura. The band are straight edge.

An Ocean Between Us is the fourth studio album by American metalcore band As I Lay Dying, released on August 21, 2007, by Metal Blade Records. It debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, with sales close to 39,500. The album includes the Grammy-nominated single "Nothing Left", as well as the singles "The Sound of Truth", "Within Destruction", "I Never Wanted" and "An Ocean Between Us", with music videos produced for all five. "Nothing Left" appears on the radio soundtrack of the 2008 video game Saints Row 2, and the song "The Sound of Truth" appears on the soundtrack of the 2009 video game MX vs. ATV Reflex. An Ocean Between Us is the band's first album to feature it's "classic lineup," following the addition of bassist and clean vocalist Josh Gilbert in April of 2007.

With Devils Amongst Us All is the third studio album by American metalcore band Walls of Jericho, released on August 21, 2006, by Trustkill Records. It was the band's first album with drummer Dustin Schoenhofer. Seeking to establish their own sound, the band decided to use an outside producer for the first time, subsequently working with Ben Schiegel during the album's recording at Spider Studios in Cleveland. The album's music blends together elements of metalcore, thrash metal and hardcore punk. Its lyrics are mainly focused on overcoming challenges, and also cover personal experiences and social issues.
