Dyson's Bus Services is a bus and coach operator in Melbourne, Australia. As a Melbourne bus company, it operates 31 bus routes under contract to the Government of Victoria. It is the main subsidiary of the Dyson Group.

Melbourne is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, and the second most populous city in Australia and Oceania. Its name refers to an urban agglomeration of 9,992.5 km² (3,858.1 sq mi), comprising a metropolitan area with 31 municipalities, and is also the common name for its city centre. The city occupies much of the coastline of Port Phillip bay and spreads into the hinterlands towards the Dandenong and Macedon ranges, Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley. It has a population of approximately 4.9 million, and its inhabitants are referred to as "Melburnians".

Buses in Melbourne, Australia, are a major form of public transport in Melbourne, with an extensive bus network. There are 346 routes in operation with a varying range of service frequencies, operated by 32 privately owned bus companies under franchise from the State Government. The Night Network bus system consists of 10 routes and operates on Friday and Saturday nights, and a SmartBus orbital bus network is being set up, currently consisting of nine routes, which is intended to facilitate cross city travel, while the current network is predominantly a radial network. Most of the bus network is a covered by the myki ticketing system.

The Government of Victoria is the executive administrative authority of the Australian state of Victoria.

History

Dyson's Bus Services was founded in June 1952 when Laurie Dyson purchased the business of Ned Gastin with route 46A Regent station to Janefield Hospital.

In 1966 Dysons purchased a 50% shareholding in Northcote Bus Service, later increased to 100%. It operated as a separate brand until integrated in January 1982.^[1]^[2]

Northcote is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 6 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District. It is part of the local government area of the City of Darebin. At the 2016 Census, Northcote had a population of 24,561.
