East-West Records

East-West Records was a jazz record label which released four albums from 1956 to 1958 featuring a combination of American and Swedish jazz musicians. [1]

East-West was a division of Atlantic Records. The small catalog was produced by Nesuhi Ertegun. [2]

Lars Gullin's Swings was reissued in 1999 on Collectables Records, paired with his 1956 album Baritone Sax. [3]

It was intended as the follow-up to Jazz By Sun Ra but Transition Records ceased to operate before it could be released.

Jazz By Sun Ra is the debut album by Sun Ra. The record label for the first pressing says "07-12-56", presumably when it was recorded. The LP originally appeared on Tom Wilson's short-lived Transition Records. In the mid-1960s it was purchased by Delmark Records owner Bob Koester, finally being reissued in 1967.

"Darn That Dream" is a popular song composed by Jimmy Van Heusen with lyrics by Eddie DeLange. It was published in 1939 and ranked No. 1 in 1940 when a recording was released by Benny Goodman in an arrangement by Eddie Sauter with Mildred Bailey singing the vocal. Other popular recordings in 1940 were by Blue Barron & His Orchestra and by Tommy Dorsey.

In keeping with many Saturn releases, one side features cuts from the arkestra c.1958, whilst the other side comes from the 1956 sessions originally intended for Sound of Joy but still unreleased in 1966.

Memorial is a 1956 jazz album by trumpeter Clifford Brown, issued posthumously. It was originally released on the Prestige label as PRLP 7055. It principally includes fast bop pieces, also arranged for a brass section. Ira Gitler, who was supervising session for Prestige label at the time, confessed he was greatly impressed by Brown: "When Brownie stood up and took his first solo on "Philly J J", I nearly fell off my seat in the control room. The power, range and brilliance together with the warmth and invention was something that I hadn't heard since Fats Navarro" Tracks 1-4 were recorded abroad with a Swedish All Star Group. Tracks 5-9 were recorded in New York as a Tadd Dameron led 10 inch LP minus the alternate take. Clifford and Benny Golson were the only horn soloists.
