Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero is an American politician serving as a member of the Northern Mariana Islands Senate for the 3rd district. Elected in November 2020,she assumed office on January 11,2021. [1]
In 2000,Governor Pedro Pangelinan Tenorio appointed her to the Marianas Public Land Trust. [2] She was reappointed in 2004 by Governor Juan Babauta and served until 2006. [3] In 2006,she became the director of the CNMI Workforce Investment Agency. She was a life insurance agent for a time for ten years prior to serving as the director of the Workforce Investment Agency. [4]
In 2013,Governor Eloy Inos merged the Workforce Investment Agency and the Department of Labor. On October 3,2013,Inos nominated DeLeon Guerrero,then Director of the Workforce Investment Agency,to serve as the Secretary of Labor. [5] She was sworn in on December 26,2013. [6] Guerrero then served as secretary of the Northern Mariana Islands Department of Labor until 2017. [7]
Her father,Lorenzo I. De Leon Guerrero,was the 13th Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands. [8]
In the 2020 general election,Guerrero defeated Republican incumbent Sixto K. Igisomar to become the first Democrat to win a Senate seat in Saipan since 2003. [7] On January 10,2023,DeLeon Guerrero became the first woman to serve as President of the Northern Mariana Islands Senate. She took over the position from Jude Hofschneider. [9] On February 12,2024,Guerrero stated she would be leaving the Democratic Party at the end of her term. [10]
Juan Nekai Babauta is a Northern Mariana Islander politician who served as the fifth governor of the Northern Mariana Islands from January 14,2002,to January 9,2006.
Benjamin Taisacan Manglona was a Northern Marianan politician and civil engineer. He is the CNMI's longest serving elected official having served as a congressman,senator,and former mayor of Rota. Manglona served as the third lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands from 1990 to 1994 and as Mayor of Rota from 1998 to 2006.
Benigno Repeki Fitial is a Northern Marianan politician who served was the sixth governor of the Northern Mariana Islands. The second longest-serving governor in CNMI history,Fitial was elected on November 6,2005,assumed office on January 9,2006,and was re-elected to a (five-year) second term in 2009. He was impeached by the CNMI House of Representatives on February 11,2013,and was scheduled to face trial before the CNMI Senate to determine if he should be removed from office. He resigned on February 20,2013,after 7 years,1 month,and 11 days in office.

The 2009 Northern Mariana Islands general election was held on Saturday,November 7,2009. This was the last general election to be held on a odd year. This election also saw the extension all office holding officials by one year to move the elections to even-years,corresponding with the elections of other federal and state offices,including the nationwide United States House of Representatives elections and the United States general elections. This election also oversaw the first run-off to be held in the Northern Mariana Islands,which were held on Monday,November 23,2009. Benigno Fitial became the first governor to win a second term since 1985 and the first time a candidate won a majority since 1993 thanks to the newly implemented run-off voting system.
Eulogio "Eloy" Songao Inos was a Northern Marianan politician who served as the seventh governor of the Northern Mariana Islands from 2013 to 2015. Inos,a member of the Republican Party,also served as the eighth lieutenant governor from 2009 to 2013.

The third longest-serving governor in CNMI history,Torres took office upon the death of Governor Eloy Inos on December 29,2015,before being reelected as governor in his own right in 2018. He previously served as the tenth lieutenant governor,having been elected to that post in 2014.

David Mundo Apatang is a Northern Mariana Islander politician who is serving as the 13th lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands since 2023. He previously served as the mayor of Saipan from January 12,2015 to January 8,2023. As a Republican,Apatang formerly served in the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives. Apatang was elected lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands in the 2022 election on an independent ticket headed by Arnold Palacios.
The 2022 Northern Mariana Islands general election was held on Tuesday,8 November,2022,corresponding with the elections of other federal and state offices,including the nationwide 2022 United States House of Representatives elections and the 2022 United States general elections. A runoff for the gubernatorial race were held on Friday,25 November,2022. This election saw the election of the CNMI's first independent governor and lieutenant governor. Both the CNMI Democratic Party and the CNMI Republican Party displayed lackluster results when compared to the independents in the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives. This election also saw the first time the Democratic Party contested the governorship since the 2014 Northern Mariana Islands general election and the first time said party received more than 10% of the popular vote since the 2005 Northern Mariana Islands general election.
