Edmond Amadeo (born July 15, 1989) is a South Sudanese footballer who plays as a defender for Scarborough SC.

Club career

Abroad

Amadeo played abroad initially in the Middle East with Saudi's Al Safa FC. [1] In 2013, he played in Romania with FC Caransebes. [1]

Canada

His initial run in Canada occurred in 2009 when he played with the Athletic Club of BC. [1]

In the spring of 2014, Amadeo returned to Canada for a trial run with the Ottawa Fury in the North American Soccer League. [2] [3] [4] Ultimately he would fail to secure a contract with Ottawa. [5] Following his trial run in the country's capital, he went to the West Coast to play in the regional Pacific Coast Soccer League with FC Tigers Vancouver. [6]

South Sudan

After a stint abroad in Canada, he played in his country's South Sudan Football Championship to play with Al-Hilal FC. [7] In 2017, he played with league rivals Gudele FC. [1]

Return to Canada

He had another run in the Canadian soccer scene in the summer of 2018 when he played in the Southern Ontario-based Canadian Soccer League with expansion side SC Real Mississauga. [8] In his debut season with Mississauga, he assisted the club in securing a playoff berth by finishing seventh in the league's first division. [9] The club would be eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs by FC Vorkuta. [9] Amadeo re-signed with Mississauga for the 2019 season. [8]

In 2023, he returned to the CSL to sign with Scarborough SC. [10] He would record his first goal for the eastern Toronto side on September 9, 2023, against Ooty Black Pearl. [11] Amadeo would help the club win the regular-season title. [12] He re-signed with Scarborough for the 2024 season. [13] Amadeo participated in the Royal CSL Cup final where the Serbian White Eagles defeated them. [14] Throughout the regular season, the club finished as runners-up to the Serbs. [15]

International career

Amadeo was selected to represent the South Sudan national football team in the 2013 CECAFA Cup. [16] [17] He made his debut for the national team on November 27, 2013, against Zanzibar. [8] He made another appearance in the regional tournament against Kenya coming on as a substitute. [18] [19] Amadeo would also play against Ethiopia in the final match of the group stage. [8]

He returned to the international scene to participate in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualification in a qualifier match against Mali. [20] [21] He would feature in the match against Mali where South Sudan was eliminated from contention. [22]

The 2018 Canadian Soccer League season was the 21st season under the Canadian Soccer League name. The season began on May 13, 2018, and concluded on October 13, 2018, with the CSL Championship final held at Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto, Ontario. FC Vorkuta won their first championship by defeating Scarborough SC in a penalty shootout. Vorkuta found further success in the Second Division by winning their first CSL double after defeating Halton United in the finals. Meanwhile FC Ukraine United claimed the First Division title.

The 2018 season was Scarborough SC's fourth season in the Canadian Soccer League. Their season official commenced on May 19, 2018, in an away match against FC Ukraine United. The season proved to be a successful one as Scarborough managed to compete in the top four and ultimately secured a playoff berth by finishing fourth in the First Division. In the postseason tournament Scarborough successfully defeated Hamilton City SC, and FC Ukraine in the earlier rounds in order to reach the CSL Championship final for the second straight season. Their opposition in the finals were FC Vorkuta, but ultimately were defeated in a penalty shootout.

The 2018 season was FC Ukraine United's third season in the Canadian Soccer League, and twelfth season since their founding in the Ontario Soccer League. The season marked United's return to the First Division after participating in the Second Division the previous year. After a competitive season with FC Vorkuta the club won their first division title on September 23, 2018. In the postseason United won their preliminary match against Brantford Galaxy, but were defeated in the second round to Scarborough SC. Pavlo Lukyanets, a veteran striker from Ukraine, was United's top goalscorer with twelve goals.

The 2018 season was Hamilton City SC's second season in the Canadian Soccer League. The season marked the return of Hamilton after a season's absence in order to reorganize. Their season began on May 19, 2018, in an away match to FC Vorkuta. Throughout the season Hamilton clinched an playoff berth after finishing fifth in the First Division. Their postseason journey came to a quick conclusion after a defeat to Scarborough SC in the Quarterfinals. The club's top goalscorer was Sani Dey with 13 goals, which made him the league's top goalscorer and was awarded the CSL Golden Boot.

The 2019 Canadian Soccer League season was the 22nd season under the Canadian Soccer League name. The season started on May 19, 2019, and concluded on October 26, 2019, with the CSL Championship final. Fixtures for the 2019 season were announced on April 30, 2019. The final consisted of Scarborough SC defeating FC Ukraine United at Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto, Ontario to claim their first championship title. The First Division title went to FC Vorkuta along with the Second Division title, and championship. The single new addition to the First Division was Kingsman SC, and the departures occurred in the Second Division with Halton United, London City, and Milton SC becoming founding members of the Canadian Academy of Soccer League (CASL).

The 2020 Canadian Soccer League season was the 23rd season under the Canadian Soccer League name. The season commenced on August 15, 2020, and concluded with the CSL Championship final on October 17, 2020. FC Vorkuta defeated the reigning champions Scarborough SC at Racco Park in Vaughan, Ontario, and secured their second championship. While Scarborough made their fourth consecutive appearance in the championship final and claimed their first divisional title.
