Edmund Chen (born 4 February 1961) [1] is a Singaporean former actor and artist. He began his career in 1987 and rose to become one of Singapore's most prominent and popular actors during the 1990s and early 2000s.
Chen entered the entertainment industry after completing the SBC (predecessor of MediaCorp) 7th drama training course in 1987. [2] He starred in several high-profile dramas such as sci-fi drama series Star Maiden, Air Force and police thriller Patrol , where he met and later married co-star Xiang Yun. During the late 1990s he temporarily left showbiz for several years to concentrate on other projects. After returning to MediaCorp his popularity soared and he won the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes award seven consecutive times. During the Star Awards 2007 25th anniversary special, he and Ivy Lee, who played his on-screen partner many times, were named the Top 5 Favourite On-screen Couples for their roles as husband and wife in Double Happiness . He left MediaCorp at the end of 2007 for family reasons but made a brief return to the screens as a guest star in Channel 5 comedy Calefare and the second season of Channel U production Perfect Cut. Besides acting, he has also presented and hosted shows ranging from sports events to variety shows to charity galas.
In 2003, Chen acted in a Hong Kong film, Turn Left, Turn Right as Dr Hu, and in 2008, acted as the father of Chun-Li in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li . [3] [4]
Chen directed his first feature film Echoing Love (爱情六重奏), which consists of six shorts directed by six different people and the cast includes Erica Lee, Alaric Tay, Vincent Ng, Nathaniel Ho and his wife Xiang Yun. It was screened at the 24th Singapore International Film Festival in 2011, where it won a Special Achievement Award at the Silver Screen Awards. [5]
Chen left the entertainment industry in 2007 and he began writing and illustrating Chinese language children's books. Two of his titles Dino Rulez! (欢迎来到我们的世界) and Little Otters To The Rescue! (水獭宝宝救爸爸) have been selected by the National Arts Council for its yearly catalogue. [6]
Chen functions as a brand ambassador and spokesman for many firms and products, including Beijing 101 Hair Consultants , Mitsubishi Electric, Chien Chi Tow, G- Spa, Donut Empire and KKC Property in Singapore and throughout the Asian region.
Chen is the eldest of three children. His younger brother Eric manages an events management company, while his younger sister is the theatre director and entrepreneur Loretta Chen. [7] [ better source needed ] [8]
Chen married actress Xiang Yun in 1989 after meeting on the sets of Patrol and they have two children; a daughter Yixin and a son Chen Xi. [9]

Double Happiness is a Chinese drama serial on MediaCorp Channel 8 in Singapore which was screened in 2004 and ended in Jan 2005. It stars Ivy Lee, Xie Shaoguang, Edmund Chen, Vivian Lai & Zhang Wei as the casts of this series. It consists two parts, with 70 episodes in this part of the show. It is about a family who sells fish and chips in a renowned restaurant in East Coast Road called Happy Fish. The restaurant has its ups and downs, but eventually it will come out strong, but not without tragedies and lessons learnt.
Ivy Lee is a Singaporean former actress and host, who was a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 1993 to 2007. She has won three Star Awards for Best Actress for her performances in the television series Angel's Dream (2000), Double Happiness (2004) and Family Matters (2006).
Bosco Wong is a Hong Kong actor, singer, and entrepreneur who gained popularity in the modern drama Triumph in the Skies (2003). Since then, he has played a diverse spectrum of roles in television series such as Wars of In-laws (2005), Dicey Business (2006) Lives of Omission (2011), and the Flying Tiger franchise. In 2014, Wong won Best Actor at the China Image Film Festival for his performance in Golden Brother.
Huang Biren is a Singaporean actress and television host who received numerous honours and known for appearing in numerous MediaCorp Channel 8 television series. She was a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 1988 to 2008.
Xiang Yun is a Singaporean actress and television host. She is commonly referred to as MediaCorp's first "Ah Jie" for being among the first locally trained artistes and has been in the entertainment industry for more than 29 years.
The Hotel is a Singapore Chinese drama which was telecast on Singapore's television station, Mediacorp, in 2001. It was released in December 2001 and was slated to be the blockbuster for the year 2001. The series has been rerun on MediaCorp Channel 8 and also on AZN Television. It stars Edmund Chen, Ivy Lee, Chen Hanwei, Jacelyn Tay, Chen Liping, May Phua and Yang Libing as the casts of this series.

He was a prominently a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 1999 to 2010. Deciding to pursue a career in singing, Wang left MediaCorp in 2010 and returned to his native Taiwan.
Florence Tan Siew Lee is a Malaysian actress and host who is based in Singapore and Hong Kong. She was a full-time Mediacorp artiste from 1997 to 2006, but she continues to film on an ad-hoc basis. In 2006, she left Mediacorp to expand her career in China and other parts of Asia.
Star Awards 2013 was a double television award ceremony held in Singapore. It is part of the annual Star Awards organised by Mediacorp for the two free-to-air channels, Mediacorp Channel 8 and Mediacorp Channel U. Star Awards 2013 was broadcast live on Channel 8, on 21 April 2013 and 28 April 2013. The first ceremony was held at the Mediacorp TV Theatre while the second ceremony was held at the Marina Bay Sands. The ceremonies were also broadcast on 8 International and the second ceremony on Astro AEC & Astro Quan Jia HD for the first time in HD.
