SirJohn Kaputin, CMG was the foreign minister of Papua New Guinea from 1992 until 1994 and from December 1999 until 2000. He is a co-founder of the Melanesian Alliance Party. He was named Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in 1983 and Knight Bachelor in 1997.
Ryan John Pini MBE is a 4-time Olympic swimmer from Papua New Guinea. He swam for PNG at the 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics; also serving as the PNG flagbearer in 2008 and 2016. He is the first PNG swimmer ever to reach an Olympic final.

Gordon Smallacombe was a Canadian track and field athlete who competed in jumping events. A Torontonian based out of the West End YMCA, he was the gold medallist in the triple jump at the 1930 British Empire Games, becoming the inaugural champion in the event with a jump of 14.76 m. It was in fact the very first gold medal won in the history of the British Empire Games. He remains the only Canadian man to win that title. At the games, he also competed in the high jump and in the long jump, taking fifth place with a jump of 6.61 m.
Athletics was one of the 26 sports contested at the 2019 Pacific Games hosted by Samoa. The track and field events were held at Apia Park on 15–20 July, with the half marathon staged on a course at the Apia waterfront on 20 July. Forty-nine athletics events were contested at the games, including six parasport events.
