Egyptian Friendship Cup, is an Egyptian official football tournament. It was organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Egyptian Football Association. The tournament was held once in 1986.

Contents

It was launched for fundraising for the Egyptian external debt minimization program. The final match took place in the Cairo Stadium.

Overview

The tournament was organized by the Egyptian higher Council for youth and sports (Ministry of Youth and Sport) in coordination with the Egyptian Football Association. It was held once in 1986. Zamalek won the Egyptian Friendship Cup after defeating Al Ahly by a score of 1–0, Zamalek's striker Gamal Abdel-Hamid scored the single winning goal in Ahmed Shobair's net in the 82nd minute. [1]

"The Black Deer", Ibrahim Youssef was the one who raised the cup as he was Zamalek's captain in 1986. [2]

Zamalek SC, commonly referred to as Zamalek, is an Egyptian sports club based in Cairo, known for its professional football team, and is considered as one of the most successful teams in Africa and one of the continent's giants. The history of Zamalek SC originates in 1911, when the club was founded by George Merzbach on January 5 as Qasr El Nile. In 1913 the club moved its headquarters to the present-day intersection of 26 July Street and Ramses and became the Cairo International Sports Club "Zamalek", colloquially known as Nady El Qāhirah El Mokhtalat. The club was granted the honorific title in 1941 after King Farouk and became officially known as Farouk El Awal Club, however, since the 1910s, Zamalek was the club's unofficial name and it became official after the 1952 Egyptian revolution.

The 2006 Egypt Cup Final was the 74th final of the Egypt Cup, Africa's oldest football cup competition. It was played on 16 June 2006 at Cairo Stadium in Cairo and was contested between Al Ahly and Zamalek. The winners would have entered the 2007 CAF Confederation Cup if they had not already qualified. However, since Al Ahly and Zamalek already qualified for the 2007 CAF Champions League, the Confederation Cup entry went to Ismaily, as they achieved the fourth place in the league.
