Ekachai Jearakul (born 5 July 1987) is a Thai classical guitarist.

Ekachai studied guitar with Kiattipong Tangsakul at Yamaha Ubonratchatani at age 13. He moved to Bangkok in 2003 to study at the College of Music, Mahidol University, where he studied with Worakarn Saengsomboon, Dr.Paul Cesarczyk and many other fine teachers at the university. He was awarded a scholarship to study at the College of Music at Mahidol University where he majored in classical guitar. [1] He later completed and graduated his bachelor's degree in Classical Guitar Performance with first class honors in 2010. Ekachai was able to earn a good living as a student by teaching guitar and in competitions, [2] winning the 2008 Berlin International Guitar Competition. [3] During this time he attended numerous master classes where he met internationally renowned guitarists including Carlo Domeniconi, Álvaro Pierri, Scott Tennant, Shinichi Fukuda, William Kanengiser, Pavel Steidl, Katona Twins and many others.

In late 2010, he received a scholarship to complete a master's degree in Classical Guitar Performance at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria with Professor Marco Tamayo. [4] He attended many competitions around the world in Europe, Asia and America. [5] Ekachai, representing Thailand in numerous classical guitar international competitions and concerts around the world with solo performances in Japan, China, South Korea, USA, France, Italy, United Kingdom, Russia and Greece. He played Joaquín Rodrigo's "Fantasia para un Gentilhombre" with Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute Orchestra conducted by Leo Phillips and with Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra in Bangkok, Thailand. He has performed as a soloist with the Dr. Sax Chamber Orchestra, the International Orchestra of Italy, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Unity Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Ukraine Philharmonic Orchestra. [7]

Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra

The Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) gave its inaugural performance at the Royal Thailand Navy Auditorium on 23 June 2005, in a gala concert for the International Trumpet Guild Conference. Over its first six seasons the TPO has consistently impressed and inspired audiences with its performances. Many conductors have led the TPO including Gudni Emilsson, Claude Villaret, Delta David Geir, Leo Phillips, Michalis Economou, Jeannine Wagnar, Dariusz Mikulski, Ligia Amadio, Christopher Hughes and Jeffery Meyer.

She is particularly successful in Poland, especially in the southwest of the country, regularly performing with the Sudeten Philharmonic Orchestra in Walbrzych and in her native Japan and in Bulgaria. The College of Music, Mahidol University or Wittayalaiduliyangkasilp (Thai: วิทยาลัยดุริยางคศิลป์ is a music school in Phutthamonthon, Nakhon Pathom,. The College of Music is a professional school within Mahidol University. It was established in 1994 by Mahidol University under the leadership of Sugree Charoensook, the first music school in Thailand.

The orchestra operates out of the offices of the Bangkok Opera Foundation.

JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition Award

The JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition is a competition for classical guitarists from all over the world. The competition was launched in 2004 by PBS member stations WNED-FM, WNED-TV and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (BPO). It was named in honor of the BPO's music director, JoAnn Falletta. It was the world’s first concerto competition for classical guitarists with accompaniment by a full symphony orchestra. The art directors are Joanne Castellani and Michael Andriaccio and Donald K. Boswell.
