Elena Dhont (born 27 March 1998) is a Belgian footballer who plays for Italian Serie A team Sassuolo, and the Belgium women's national football team.
Between 2013 and 2015, Dhont played for K.A.A. Gent in the BeNe League. After the dissolution of the BeNe League, she continued playing for Gent in the Belgian Women's Super League. [1] [2] In 2020, Dhont announced a move to Dutch Eredivisie club FC Twente. [3] [4] She was one of six players to leave Gent. [3] In November 2020, Dhont broke her kneecap during a match with PSV. She was out injured for the remainder of the season. [5] Her next appearance was for the Twente under-23s team in March 2022, [6] and the next month, she made her first appearance for the senior team since 2020. [7]
Dhont has played for Belgium under-17s, Belgium under-19s, and the senior team. [1]
In 2019, Dhont scored for Belgium in a 1–0 victory over the Republic of Ireland, [8] and also the only goal in a 1–0 win against Nigeria at the 2019 Cyprus Women's Cup. [9] [10] In 2020, Dhont was selected in the squad for the Algarve Cup. [11] She was included in the provisional 33-player squad for UEFA Women's Euro 2022, [12] and made four appearances in the tournament. [13]
Dhont is from Zaffelare, Belgium. [3] She is a Royal Belgian Football Association ambassador for women's football. [14]

Twente
The Vrouwen Eredivisie, also known as the Azerion Eredivisie Vrouwen due to a three-year sponsor contract beginning in the 2022–2023 season, is the highest women's football league in the Netherlands. Organized by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB), it was established in 2007 as a professional league and played for five seasons until 2012, when the leagues of the Netherlands and Belgium merged forming a single combined league. The BeNe League folded after three seasons, and the Eredivisie was restarted in the 2015–16 season. The top two teams receive a spot in the UEFA Women's Champions League.
The 2011–12 Eredivisie Vrouwen was the fifth season of the Netherlands women's professional football league. After a troubled build-up, the season took place from 2 September 2011 to 18 May 2012 with seven teams.
FC Twente Vrouwen is the women's football section of Dutch club FC Twente, based in Enschede, and competes in the Vrouwen Eredivisie, the top women's league in the Netherlands.
FC Utrecht Vrouwen is the women's football section of Dutch club FC Utrecht based in Utrecht. Established in 2007, as one of the founding members of the professional Dutch women's football league, the team competed in the league from its inaugural season of 2007–08 until 2011–12 and then in the BeNe League, made of up Belgian and Dutch teams, from 2012–13 until the team's dissolution in January 2014. The club won the Dutch Cup once and the Dutch Super Cup once.
In July 2021, FC Utrecht was reportedly looking into restarting a women's team in the Eredivisie Vrouwen beginning in the 2023–24 season. The club played its first match upon rejoining the Eredivisie on 8 September, 2023.
