Elias Uddin Mollah (born 2 March 1971) is a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a member of National Parliament of Bangladesh. [1] [2] He was elected from Dhaka-16 constituency. [3]
Elias was born to Harun Rashid Mollah,who was also an MP, [1] and Ajma Begum. [4] His paternal grandfather,Qudratullah Mollah,served as president of Mirpur union parishad for 27 years straight. Elias attended National Bangla High School. [5] He has not studied beyond intermediate level. [1]
In 2014 he was accused of being involved in an arson attack on a refugee camp of Stranded Pakistanis in Mirpur,Dhaka in which 10 people died. [6] [7] Mollah denied involvement and blamed a "vested conspiracy" against him. [8]
In 2015 Elias made racist comments about black people. [1] After a recent trip to the Congo,he said to journalists: [1]
Our army has gone there (Africa) to civilise those black people. I am sure they will accomplish the task.
He constantly referred to the Congolese as "uncivilized black people" and added "People there are yet to become civilised. They take bath every 15 days. After applying soaps before bath,they do not even use water in a bid to retain the aroma." [9] When pointed out that he was being racist and whether the UN had entrusted the Bangladeshi peacekeepers with the responsibility to make Africans "civilised",Mollah said,"No... we are only assisting them to get civilised." In 2016 he was accused of attempting to illegally occupy private homes. [10]
The Bangladesh genocide was the ethnic cleansing of Bengali Hindus residing in East Pakistan during the Bangladesh Liberation War,perpetrated by the Pakistan Armed Forces and the Razakars. It began on 25 March 1971,as Operation Searchlight was launched by West Pakistan to militarily subdue the Bengali population of East Pakistan;the Bengalis comprised the demographic majority and had been calling for independence from the Pakistani state. Seeking to curtail the Bengali self-determination movement,erstwhile Pakistani president Yahya Khan approved a large-scale military deployment,and in the nine-month-long conflict that ensued,Pakistani soldiers and local pro-Pakistan militias killed between 300,000 and 3,000,000 Bengalis and raped between 200,000 and 400,000 Bengali women in a systematic campaign of mass murder and genocidal sexual violence. In their investigation of the genocide,the Geneva-based International Commission of Jurists concluded that Pakistan's campaign involved the attempt to exterminate or forcibly remove a significant portion of the country's Hindu populace.
The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium,also called Mirpur Stadium,is an International cricket ground at Mirpur,in Dhaka,the capital of Bangladesh. Located 10 kilometres from Mirpur city centre,the ground holds approximately 25,000 people and is named after the Bengali statesman A. K. Fazlul Huq,who was accorded the title Sher-e-Bangla.

1971 Dhaka University massacre refers to the massacre of students and faculty at the University of Dhaka in East Pakistan by the Pakistan Army,at the beginning of what would become the Bangladesh Liberation War. In March 1971,the Pakistan Army Eastern Wing Commander Tikka Khan launched Operation Searchlight on the orders of dictator Yahya Khan to crush the Bengali nationalist movement. As part of the operation,the army launched an assault on the university campus. It is the deadliest university attack in history.

On 5 February 2013,protests ignited in Shahbagh,Bangladesh,fueled by the call for the execution of the convicted war criminal and Islamist Abdul Quader Mollah. Previously sentenced to life imprisonment,Mollah was convicted on five of six counts of war crimes by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh. Mollah supported the West Pakistan during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War and played a crucial role in the murder of numerous Bengali nationalists and intellectuals. The "Bihari" minority in Bangladesh were subject to persecution during and after the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War,experiencing widespread discrimination. Biharis were ethnic Urdu-speakers and largely maintained a pro-Pakistani stance,supported the Pakistan Armed Forces and opposed the independence of Bangladesh and the Bengali language movement of the Bengali Muslims. Biharis faced reprisals from Mukti Bahini and militias resulting in an estimated death toll ranging from 1,000 to 150,000.

As Mirpur,an important part of Dhaka city,was occupied by Biharis from early March and freed after 45 days it is especially important compared to other places in Bangladesh. It has been claimed to be the largest genocide after World War II. Bangladesh officially became independent on 16 December 1971,but the neighborhood of Mirpur was liberated from Pakistan Army and local Bihari people on 31 January 1972,45 days after the declaration of independence was signed. Mirpur was largely inhabited by Biharis who were against the secession movement,so genocide took place on a large scale. Mirpur was the last battlefield of the war. Bangla College is one of the largest killing fields in Bangladesh.
