Walter Frederick "Fritz" Mondale was an American lawyer and politician who served as the 42nd vice president of the United States from 1977 to 1981 under President Jimmy Carter. A U.S. senator from Minnesota from 1964 to 1976,he was the Democratic Party's nominee in the 1984 presidential election,but lost to incumbent Ronald Reagan in an Electoral College and popular vote landslide. Reagan won 49 states while Mondale carried his home state of Minnesota and the District of Columbia. His vice presidential nominee,U.S. Representative Geraldine Ferraro from New York,was the first female vice-presidential nominee of any major party in U.S. history.

The Minneapolis City Council is the lawmaking body of Minneapolis. It consists of 13 members,elected from separate wards to four-year terms,via a ranked-choice method. The council structure has been in place since the 1950s. In recent elections,council membership has been dominated by the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL). As of 2022,12 members identified with the DFL,while one identified with Democratic Socialists of America. Until the 2021 Minneapolis City Council election,the city's government structure was considered a weak-mayor,strong-council system. Margaret Anderson Kelliher is an American politician,Director of the Minneapolis Department of Public Works,former Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Transportation,and a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party,she represented District 60A,which includes portions of the city of Minneapolis in Hennepin County,located in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. First elected in 1999,she served until 2011,also serving as the Speaker from 2007 to 2011. She is the second woman to hold the position of House speaker. Since 2019 Kelliher,has worked in transportation management roles for the government,first as Commissioner of MnDOT,and later as Director of Public Works for the city of Minneapolis.

Clarissa Rogers Walker was an American social activist and community leader based in Minneapolis,Minnesota. She was known for her social contributions in the South Minneapolis area for the African-American community. She served for more than three decades as the director of Sabathani Community Center,a multi-ethnicity community service center in Minneapolis,Minnesota. In November 2019,the City Council of Minneapolis announced a commemorative honor to Walker along with activist Launa Newman by renaming and dedicating specific portions of avenues amongst the 38th Street corridor to their names respectively as a tribute to their contributions.
