Early life

She attends Samuel V. Champion High School in Boerne, Texas. [2]

Career

2023

In June 2023, she became the first prep freshman female athlete to beat the 10-minute barrier in the 2-mile, lowering the ninth-grade national record to 9:57.65. [3]

In December 2023, she won the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships in San Diego finishing the course in 16:50, 14 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. [4]

2024

In February 2024, she broke the high school record set by Katelyn Tuohy over 3,200 metres by running 9:45.57. The following week, she broke her own record, and ended the month with the three fastest times ever set, breaking her own record again with a run of 9:43.74 at the Boerne Greyhound Relays. [5] [6]

In March 2024, she set a new American high school record indoor time of 15:28.90, again beating the mark set by Tuohy. Later that month, she set a new outdoor high school record over 5000 metres of 15:25.27. [7]

She finished in 26th place in the 5000m at the United States Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon in June 2024. [8]

On December 14, 2024, Elizabeth Leachman won the Foot Locker girls Cross Country National Championship, repeating her win of 2023. [9]

German Fernandez is a retired American professional runner from Riverbank, California, known for his performance in high school and collegiate cross country and track and field. Later he trained under Jerry Schumacher for the Bowerman Track Club. He is most well known for running the California Cross Country State Meet course record (14:24), as well as running a new American high-school record, 8:34.40 for two miles, at the 2008 Nike Outdoor Nationals championship. He also holds the World Junior Indoor Mile record at 3:55.02. A local meet in Riverbank, California, the German Fernandez Distance Carnival, is named after him.

Hassan Mead is a Somali-American long-distance runner. He was a cross country and track athlete for the University of Minnesota. An eight-time All-American in his Minnesota career, four in cross country and five in track.

Kimberly Mortensen is the girl's individual winner of the 1995 Footlocker Cross Country Championships and a former national high school record holder in the 3200 meter run. In December of 1995, Mortensen capped off a successful senior cross country season by winning the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships 5K in 17:12:4 at Balboa Park in San Diego, California. On May 24, 1996 she ran 9:48.59 in the 3200 meter race for the California CIF-Southern Sections Masters track and field meet, run at Cerritos College in Norwalk, California. Her performance, in the qualifying meet for the California Interscholastic Federation State Championships capped an exceptional senior year at Thousand Oaks High School. She was the third athlete from suburban Ventura County to be named both the Gatorade Player of the Year and the Track and Field News High School Athlete of the Year, a list that includes one time teammate Marion Jones. Following her national high school record breaking race, she went on to win the California State Championship race a week later in 9:52.80. Her then California State Championship record time of 9:52:80 was superseded by Jordan Hasay and Laurynne Chetelat's exceptional battle in the 2008 version of that same meet. Mortensen's national high school 3200 meter record time was eventually broken 22 years later by Katelyn Tuohy's 9:47:88 in May of 2018.

Emily Sisson is an American long-distance runner. She set the North American record in the marathon on October 9, 2022, when she ran 2:18:29 to finish second at the Chicago Marathon. Sisson also held the American record in the half marathon from May 2022 until July 2023. She represented the United States in the 10000 metres at the 2017 and 2019 World Athletics Championships, finishing 9th and 10th. In June 2021, she won the 10000m at the 2020 US Olympic Trials and placed 10th in the 10000m final at the 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2024, she placed second in the marathon at the US Olympic Trials, qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics. She competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics Women's marathon on 11 August 2024, where she finished 23rd.

Molly Seidel is an American long distance runner. Seidel represented the United States at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country in 2012, 2013, and 2018. In her first-ever marathon, Seidel placed second at the 2020 U.S. Marathon Olympic Trials. Later, she went on to win the bronze medal in her third career marathon at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. At the University of Notre Dame, Seidel was a 4-time NCAA champion, 6-time NCAA All-American, 6-time Atlantic Coast Conference champion and 2016 female ACC Athlete of the Year.

Taylor Ewert is an American long-distance runner and college track and field athlete for the University of Arkansas and Michigan State University. In high school, she set numerous records and was the cross country OHSAA Division I individual state champion in 2019, representing Beavercreek High School. Ewert committed to the University of Arkansas later that year, and in 2020, she was named the Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year.

Grace Ping is a 5.75 feet (1.75 m)-tall American runner. As a seventh grader in 2016, she "took down" a large field of female high school runners in a Minnesota cross-country invitational meet. Grace "became a sort of folk hero" from this.

Weini Kelati Frezghi is an American middle and long distance runner. Born in Eritrea, she claimed asylum in the United States in July 2014 and subsequently achieved multiple victories in state and national level competitions while attending Heritage High School in Leesburg, Virginia. While competing for the University of New Mexico, Kelati won the 2019 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
