Elizabeth Woodward is an American film producer and founder of Willa Productions. She has produced On The Divide (2021), You Resemble Me (2021), and Another Body (2023).

Life and career

Woodward graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Brown University. [1] She also received a masters from the University of Cambridge. [1] During this time, Woodward was the managing director of the Ivy Film Festival. [2] This led to an interest in film, which led Woodward to produce and direct short films, [3] feature films, television shows and impact campaigns.

Woodward co-produced The Great Hack about the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data scandal. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] and Persuasion Machines, a virtual reality experience which explored how household devices collect personal data on their users. [9] Persuasion Machines was narrated by will.i.am. [10] Both The Great Hack and Persuasion Machines premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Woodward founded Willa Productions, a film production company, to support bold stories by innovative filmmakers. [11] Through Willa Productions, Woodward produced You Resemble Me, a film that explores radicalization in Europe, which premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in the Venice Days section. [12] [13] She also produced On The Divide, a film that documents the lives of three latinx people in south Texas who find themselves in the gray area of the abortion debate, [14] [15] [16] which at the Tribeca Film Festival. [14] Woodward is also producing Another Body, a documentary that will explore the world of deepfake image based abuse [17] which was selected for the Hot Docs 2021 Selected Projects [18] and received the IDA Enterprise Documentary Fund Award. [19]

Woodward was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Media list in 2021 for her work, [21] and in the Doc NYC 40 Under 40 list 2021. [22] She was selected for Berlinale Talents [23] and the Impact Partners Producers Fellowship [24]

Her projects have been selected for various film festivals, shortlisted for Academy Awards, nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award, a BAFTA Award, an IDA award and won a Cinema Eye Award. Her films have been supported by Sundance Institute, Tribeca Institute, Chicken and Egg, Film Independent, Impact Partners, Field of Vision, Level Forward, Perspective Fund, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. The Great Hack is a 2019 documentary film about the Facebook–Cambridge Analytica data scandal, produced and directed by Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer, both previous documentary Academy Award nominees. The film's music was composed by Emmy-nominated film composer Gil Talmi. The Great Hack premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in the Documentary Premieres section and was released by Netflix on July 24, 2019.

Karim Amer is an Egyptian-American film producer and director. He worked on The Square (2013) and The Great Hack (2019); the former was the first Egyptian film to earn an Academy Award nomination and went on to win three Emmy Awards, while the latter got nominated for an Emmy and a BAFTA Award. In 2020, he produced and directed The Vow, an HBO documentary series about the self-improvement group, NXIVM.

Marilyn Ness is a documentary film producer and director based in New York City She is known for social justice documentaries, including Bad Blood: A Cautionary Tale (2010), Cameraperson (2016), and most notably, Charm City (2018). Her recent projects include Netflix Original documentary Becoming with Michelle Obama, which was nominated for four Primetime Emmy awards and Netflix Original documentary Dick Johnson is Dead, which was on the Academy Award Shortlist for Best Documentary in 2021. She is currently an adjunct assistant professor at Columbia University.
