Ella Rubin (born September 2, 2001) [2] is an American actress. She began her career as a child actress in the film The Rewrite (2014). She made her Broadway debut in the Roundabout Theatre Company's revival of the Tennessee Williams play The Rose Tattoo (2019). On television, she is known for her roles in the Netflix series The Chair (2021) and the Hulu series The Girl from Plainville (2022). [3] [4]

Early life and education

Rubin was born in New York City and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. [5] Her father Ron Rubin served as an insurance company CEO, and her mother is a talent manager and works with her sister, Jodi Kipperman, a prominent casting director as well as the owner and president of the talent organization, Kipperman & Company. [6] She studied theatre and performing arts at the Professional Children's School. [7] She is Jewish. [8]

Career

Rubin made her film debut in a supporting role in the romantic comedy film The Rewrite (2014) starring Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei. [9] She has since acted in minor roles in shows such as the Hulu comedy series Difficult People (2017), the Showtime drama series Billions (2018), and the Netflix comedy series The Chair (2021). Rubin made her Broadway debut in the 2019 revival of The Rose Tattoo starring opposite Tomei. [5] [10] She had a recurring role as Bianca Breer in the HBO Max update Gossip Girl from 2021 to 2023. [11] She played Natalie Gibson in the Hulu limited series The Girl from Plainville (2022) starring Elle Fanning. [12] In 2023, she acted in the coming-of-age surrealist comedy The Sweet East directed by Sean Price Williams. [13] In 2024, she had a supporting role in the Anne Hathaway-led romantic comedy The Idea of You on Prime Video [14] and played Vera in Sean Baker's film Anora starring Mikey Madison. [15]

The Girl from Plainville is an American biographical crime drama television miniseries created by Liz Hannah and Patrick Macmanus. The series stars Elle Fanning, Chloë Sevigny, and Colton Ryan. It premiered on Hulu on March 29, 2022. A portion of the series showed at SXSW on March 12, 2022. The series is a dramatization of the events leading to the death of Conrad Roy and his girlfriend Michelle Carter's conviction for involuntary manslaughter. The series received mostly positive reviews, with praise towards the performances of Fanning, Ryan, and Sevigny.

Augusta Marsh Birney, known professionally as Gus Birney, is an American actress. She is known for her television roles in The Mist (2017), Dickinson (2019–2021), and Shining Vale (2022–2023). On stage, she made her Broadway debut in the 2023 revival of The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window. She also acted in off-Broadway productions of The Rose Tattoo (2016) and Our Class (2024).
