The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 U.S. states, and the 13 stripes represent the thirteen British colonies that declared independence from Great Britain, which they obtained in their victory in the American Revolutionary War.

Nicholls State University is a public university in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Founded in 1948, Nicholls is part of the University of Louisiana System. Originally named Francis T. Nicholls Junior College, the university is named for Francis T. Nicholls, a former governor of Louisiana, member of the Louisiana Supreme Court, and general in the Confederate army during the American Civil War.
Allen Joseph Ellender was an American politician and lawyer who was a U.S. Senator from Louisiana from 1937 until his death. He was a Democrat who was originally allied with Huey Long. As Senator he compiled a generally conservative record, voting 77% of the time with the Conservative Coalition on domestic issues. A staunch segregationist, he signed the Southern Manifesto in 1956, voted against the Voting Rights Act of 1965, and opposed anti-lynching legislation in 1938. Unlike many Democrats he was not a "hawk" in foreign policy and opposed the Vietnam War.

The Julia Reynolds Masterman Laboratory and Demonstration School is a middle and secondary school located in Philadelphia. Hammond High Magnet School, founded in 1866, is a public high school located in an unincorporated part of the 7th Ward of Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, United States, east of Hammond. It is the second-largest high school in the Tangipahoa Parish Public School System. Until the end of academic year 2010-11 it was known as Hammond High School but became Hammond Magnet High School on being so reconstituted and designated by the Tangipahoa Parish School System. The mascot is the Tornado, and the school colors are purple and white. As of the 2022-2023 school year, Hammond High's principal is Micheal Kyle. The school enrolls students from Hammond and the surrounding area within Tangipahoa Parish because of the presence of the Magnet program and International Baccalaureate program.
