Mia Katherine Zapata was an American musician who was the lead singer for the Seattle punk band The Gits. After gaining praise in the emerging grunge scene, Zapata was murdered in 1993 while on her way home from a music venue, at age 27. The crime went unsolved for a decade before her killer, Jesus Mezquia, was arrested in 2003. Mezquia was tried, convicted and sentenced to 36 years in prison.

Zapata Falls is a waterfall located in the San Luis Valley near the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains on Bureau of Land Management land adjacent to Rio Grande National Forest and south of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in Alamosa County, Colorado. The waterfall has a drop of about 30 feet (9 m). Access to this waterfall entails a mildly steep 0.5-mile (800 m) hike. Viewing the falls requires fording the stream and climbing rocks.

Miguel Rayderley Zapata Santana is an artistic gymnast. Born in the Dominican Republic, he is a member of the Spain national team. He won the gold medal in the men's floor exercise at the 2015 European Games, and bronze at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Glasgow. Zapata was also selected to compete for the Spanish squad at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, missing out of the final by almost two tenths of a point during the qualifying phase of his signature apparatus. Zapata won a silver medal for Spain in the men's floor exercise event of the artistic gymnastics competition at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
