Enda Markey is an Irish-born, Sydney-based, theatrical producer and former singer and actor. He is the producer of the stage productions Side by Side by Sondheim and the international tour of Boublil and Schonberg's Do You Hear The People Sing?, and the Australian revival of Willy Russell's Blood Brothers .
Enda Markey was born in Dublin, Ireland. He studied musical theatre at Laine Theatre Arts in London on a scholarship. [1] [2]
Following his training, Markey played Rick in the London production of A Slice of Saturday Night . [1] [2] He appeared in the Irish premiere of Follies with Lorna Luft, Dave Willetts and Millicent Martin. Follies was followed by an appearance in Side By Side By Sondheim , giving Markey his first starring role. Side By Side was immediately followed by his return to A Slice of Saturday Night in Dublin, recreating the role of Rick. [1]
Theatrical appearances in Australia include The Mangina Monologues in Melbourne and Sydney and the world premiere of Flying Solo with Paula Duncan, Noeline Brown, Jacinta John and Barry Quin, directed by Judy Nunn. [3]
In April 2011, Markey produced and starred in a new Australian production of Side By Side By Sondheim , appearing alongside Margi de Ferranti, Amelia Cormack and Jessica Rowe [4] [5] This production toured until November 2012, eventually replacing Cormack with Rachael Beck and then Lucy Maunder; De Ferranti with Geraldine Turner; and Michael Falzon taking over the male role from Markey (who remained as producer). [6]
On 20 April 2012, Markey produced a Gala Concert version of Side By Side by Sondheim featuring Ruthie Henshall at the Theatre Royal. [7] The gala was held to support White Ribbon Australia, a charity which seeks to raise awareness of violence against women. [8] The gala was part of an ongoing tour, which had started in April 2011 at Sydney's Seymour Centre. [9]

Enda Markey Presents Do You Hear The People Sing? premiered at Shanghai Grand Theatre [10] 27 November until 1 December 2013. Markey, together with Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg presented a fundraising performance of the show at Resorts World Manila starring Lea Salonga, David Harris and Marie Zamora with Filipino performers making guest appearances. A tenth anniversary concert in Manila starred Abigail Adriano, Nigel Huckle, Bradley Jaden and Amy Manford and took place in August 2024 [11] .
Do You Hear The People Sing? continued its tour at Taipei International Convention Centre starring Michael Ball, David Harris, Amanda Harrison, Ana Marina and Jennifer Paz. [12] In 2022, an Australian production toured to Sydney Opera House and Arts Centre Melbourne. [13]

On 28 July 2024, Patrick Wilson, Skylar Astin, Emily Bautista, Jon Jon Briones, Nikki Renee Daniels, Rachel Tucker and Marie Zamora headlined a one-off concert at the Hollywood Bowl. [15]
Do You Hear The People Sing? features the work of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg including music from Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Martin Guerre, The Pirate Queen and La Revolution Francaise. [16]
In February 2015, Enda Markey presented Blood Brothers at the Hayes Theatre in Sydney, starring Helen Dallimore, Bobby Fox, Blake Bowden, and Michael Cormick. [17] Helen Dallimore was nominated for a Helpmann Awards and won a Glugs Award for her performance. [18] [19] The production played a limited season in Melbourne. [20]
In February 2016, Enda Markey presented Broadway Stars Sutton Foster, Aaron Tveit and Betty Buckley together with Joanna Ampil, Helen Dallimore and David Harris in a concert celebrating the work of Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz at Theatre Royal. [21]
In June 2019, Enda Markey presented the world premiere of Bobby Fox: The Irish Boy at Sydney Opera House [22] before a short tour which included the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
In June 2019, Ruthie Henshall commenced her first tour of Australia in "Live & Intimate" [23] which included performances at Sydney Opera House, Queensland Performing Arts Centre and the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. The concerts were met with unanimous praise from critics. [24] [25] [26] [27] [28]
In June 2022, Anna O'Byrne - Becoming Eliza [29] received its world premiere at Sydney Opera House. In Becoming Eliza, Anna O’Byrne reflects on her experience creating the role of Eliza Doolittle in the Australian production of My Fair Lady, which was directed by Julie Andrews in 2016. O'Byrne shared stories about working intimately with Andrews, as well as the lessons she learned from both Dame Julie and Eliza. The performance was critically praised [30] [31] [32] and will tour into 2024.
In May 2024, it was announced that Enda Markey would produce Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel in concert, starring Anna O'Byrne as Julie Jordan, Marina Prior as Nettie Fowler and Danny Whitehead as Billy Bigelow. The cast also included Blake Bowden as Enoch Snow, Andy Conaghan as Jigger Craigin and Kerrie Anne Greenland as Carrie Pipperidge. The concert production was presented at Melbourne's Princess Theatre and was highly praised by critics [33] [34] [35] .
Les Misérables, colloquially known as Les Mis or Les Miz, is a sung-through musical with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, and a book by Schönberg and Boublil, based on the 1862 novel of the same name by Victor Hugo. Set in early 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his desire for redemption. After stealing a loaf of bread for his sister's starving child, Valjean is imprisoned for 19 years and released in 1815. When a bishop inspires him with a tremendous act of mercy, Valjean breaks his parole and starts his life anew and in disguise. He becomes wealthy and adopts an orphan, Cosette. A police inspector named Javert pursues Valjean over the decades in a single-minded quest for "justice". The characters are swept into a revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists attempts to overthrow the government at a street barricade in Paris.

She voiced characters for Get Ace an animation series released in January 2014. She appeared with Mig Ayesa, Michael Falzon and Carly Thomas-Smith for three performances of The Music of Queen - Rock and Symphonic Spectacular. The concert series began on 7 February 2014, at Sydney Opera House supported by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra before three performances in Perth, Western Australia between 13–15 February.

David Harris is an Australian actor and singer. In Australia, he is best known for his performances as Chris in Miss Saigon, Fiyero in Wicked and Emmett in Legally Blonde having received Helpmann Award nominations for all three leading roles. Harris also starred as the Baker in Victorian Opera's production of Into the Woods and, in America, as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables opposite Terrence Mann in 2015. He has released two solo albums. Since early 2023, he has played the role of The Duke of Monroth in the Broadway theater production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
Stephen Mahy is an Australian born tenor from Sydney, NSW, best known for originating the role of Bob Gaudio in the Australian production of Jersey Boys. After graduating from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2006, Stephen toured the country in Miss Saigon, covering the lead role of Chris and playing the role to every audience in the country. Mahy toured nationally in Grease, playing the role of Kenickie alongside notable cast members Rob Mills, Gretel Scarlett, Anthony Callea, Lucy Maunder, Todd McKenney and Bert Newton as Vince Fontaine. In 2015, Stephen joined the cast of The Rocky Horror Show, playing the role of Brad Majors alongside Craig McLachlan, Amy Lehpamer, Jayde Westaby, Bert Newton and Richard O'Brien, just to name a few. He featured in "Stephen Schwartz in Conversation" at Sydney's Theatre Royal, where he performed on stage for the noted composer.
Lucy Maunder is an Australian cabaret and theatre performer. She originated the role of Lara in the Australian premiere of Doctor Zhivago in 2011 opposite Anthony Warlow, and toured with her own cabaret Songs in the Key of Black in 2013, releasing an album with the same name. Also in 2013, Maunder toured with the national touring company of Grease playing the role of Rizzo. In 2021-22, she starred as the adult Alison Bechdel in the Sydney Theatre Company and Melbourne Theatre Company's co-production of Fun Home.
