Eric Verhagen (born 21 February 1964) [1] is a retired Dutch sidecarcross passenger and double World Champion.
He has also won the Dutch national sidecarcross championship four times, in 1986, 1989, 1990 and 1992. All his successes were achieved with Eimbert Timmermans as the team's driver.
Eric Verhagen's first success as a sidecarcross rider came in 1986, when he took out the Dutch national championship, together with Eimbert Timmermans. This season was also his first in the sidecarcross world championship, where the team finished sixteen's, with two seventh place race finishes as their best results. [2]
After similar results in 1987, the team greatly improved in 1988, coming fifth in the world championship and taking out their first race win in the Dutch GP. After continuing good results in 1989 and 1990 and two more Dutch national championships, the team managed to take out their first world championship in 1991. [2]
The following season, 1992, saw a repeat of the world championship and also a fourth Dutch title. Verhagen retired from the competition after that, [2] as did Timmermans. [3]

The Sidecar Motocross World Championship is an annual event, first held in 1980. It is organized by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Before 1980, a European competition was held from 1971 onwards.

The 2004 FIM Sidecarcross World Championship, the 25th edition of the competition, started on 21 March 2004 and finished after fourteen race weekends on 5 September 2004 with Daniël Willemsen and Kaspars Stupelis taking out the title once more. For Willemsen, it was his third world championship while it was the second for Stupelis.

Hansi Bächtold, is a retired Swiss sidecarcross rider and four times Sidecarcross World Champion, having won the competition from 1984 to 1987, together with his passenger Fritz Fuß. The duo became the first-ever combination to win the competition four times in a row, a feat later repeated by the Swiss team of Andreas Fuhrer and Adrian Käser and surpassed by Dutch rider Daniël Willemsen with six consecutive titles.
Fritz Fuß is a retired Swiss sidecarcross passenger and four times Sidecarcross World Champion, having won the competition from 1984 to 1987 as the passenger of Hansi Bächtold. The duo became the first-ever combination to win the competition four times in a row, a feat later repeated by the Swiss team of Andreas Fuhrer and Adrian Käser and surpassed by Dutch rider Daniël Willemsen with six consecutive titles.
The 2001 FIM Sidecarcross World Championship, the 22nd edition of the competition, started on 1 April and finished after fourteen Grand Prix on 30 September 2001.
