Erin D. Herbig is an American serving as the city manager of the city of Belfast,Maine. [1] [2] She previously served as a member of the Maine Senate and Maine House of Representatives. [3] Herbig earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Boston College in 2003 and is a graduate of the Emerge program,which trains Democratic women to run for office.

George John Mitchell Jr. is an American politician,diplomat,and lawyer. A leading member of the Democratic Party,he served as a United States senator from Maine from 1980 to 1995,and as Senate Majority Leader from 1989 to 1995. After retiring from the Senate,Mitchell played a leading role in negotiations for peace in Northern Ireland and the Middle East. He was appointed United States Special Envoy for Northern Ireland (1995–2001) by President Clinton and as United States Special Envoy for Middle East Peace (2009–2011) by President Barack Obama.

Eloise A. Vitelli is the majority leader of the Maine Senate. She is a Democrat representing Senate District 24,which serves all of Sagadahoc County and the adjacent town of Dresden,Maine in Lincoln County. Vitelli was first elected to the Maine Senate in a 2013 special election,but lost her re-election bid in 2014. She was re-elected in 2016,2018 and 2020. Vitelli began working as an entrepreneurship trainer in the early 1980s and was the director of program and policy for New Ventures Maine for 38 years. She became the Assistant Senate Majority Leader in December 2020,and Majority Leader in February 2021.
Joe Baldacci is an American attorney and Democratic politician from Maine. Baldacci serves in the Maine Senate representing District 9,serving Bangor and Hermon. He grew up in Bangor and attended the University of Maine and the University of Maine School of Law. Following law school,Baldacci returned to Bangor and opened a law practice,serving on the Bangor City Council beginning in 1996. Baldacci served 12 years on the Council,including two terms as chair/mayor,before being elected to the Maine Senate in 2020. He also made a brief run for Maine's 2nd congressional district seat in 2016 but dropped out before the Democratic primary in June.

Nathan Libby is an American Democratic politician from Maine. He represents Senate District 21,which serves Lewiston,Maine's second-largest city. Libby grew up in central Maine and attended Bates College where he majored in history and economics. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern Maine and works as an economic development consultant,currently as the president of Community Concepts Finance Corporation. Libby served one term in the Maine House of Representatives from 2012 to 2014 and was first elected to the Maine Senate in 2014. He served as the Senate majority leader from 2018-2020.

Incumbent Republican Governor Paul LePage was term limited and could not seek reelection to a third consecutive term in office although he later announced his campaign for a third term in the 2022 election.
Maine Question 5,formally An Act to Establish Ranked-Choice Voting,is a citizen-initiated referendum question that qualified for the Maine November 8,2016 statewide ballot. It was approved by a vote of 52% in favor,48% opposed. It sought to change how most Maine elections will be conducted from a plurality voting system to a ranked-choice voting system. It appeared on the ballot along with elections for President of the United States,Maine's two U.S. House seats,the legislature,five other ballot questions,and various local elections. The referendum was successful,making Maine the first state to use ranked choice voting for its federal elections.
Hodgdon Charles Buzzell was an American lawyer and politician from Maine. Buzzell,a Republican from Belfast,was elected to six terms in the Maine Legislature,including four in the Maine House of Representatives and two in the Maine Senate. Backed by the Ku Klux Klan,Buzzell unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for United States Senate in a special election in 1926.

The 2022 Maine gubernatorial election took place on November 8,2022,to elect the governor of Maine. Incumbent Democratic governor Janet Mills won re-election to a second term. Mills faced no primary opposition. The only Republican to file to run for the GOP nomination was former governor Paul LePage. An independent candidate,Sam Hunkler,received 2% of the vote,the lowest total for a third party or independent candidate since 1982. This was also the first gubernatorial election in Maine since 1990 in which the winner was from the same party as the incumbent president. With over 376,000 votes,Mills won more votes than any other gubernatorial candidate in Maine history,breaking her own record set four years earlier. Mills's 13 point margin of victory was the largest for a statewide Democratic candidate since George J. Mitchell won over 80% of the vote in the 1988 United States Senate election.
Glenn "Chip" Curry is an American Democratic politician and youth advocate currently serving as the Maine State Senator for District 11. He has represented Waldo County in the State Senate since 2020 and is the student services coordinator at the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA)'s Rockland center. Curry earned an MS in College Student Personnel Services from Miami University in 1994 and worked in student services at Unity College and the University of Southern Maine (USM)'s Muskie School of Public Service before joining UMA.
Joseph Rafferty Jr. is an American educator,high school gridiron football coach,and Democratic politician from Maine. Rafferty has been the head coach of the Kennebunk High School Rams football team since 1979 and is currently serving his first term in the Maine Senate representing District 34,which consists of Kennebunk,Wells,Acton,Lebanon,North Berwick,and part of Berwick. Rafferty was born in 1955 and grew up in Woburn,Massachusetts. He attended Springfield College,graduated in 1977 and began teaching and coaching at Kennebunk High School in 1978. As an educator,he was active in the teachers' unions and helped negotiate contracts on their behalf. He retired from full-time teaching in 2018 but continues to coach football. Rafferty was elected to the Maine Senate in 2020 and is currently serving his first term.
Heidi Hilgartner Sampson is a Republican politician,anti-vaccine activist and member of the Maine House of Representatives. Sampson represents Maine House District #21,consisting of the towns of Alfred and Newfield and parts of the towns of Limerick,Parsonsfield and Shapleigh. Sampson's prominence in the anti-vaccination movement in Maine began with her 2019 opposition toward legislation eliminating religious and philosophical exemptions to childhood vaccinations in the state. Sampson was active in a campaign for a failed people's veto of the legislation,and spoke at anti-vaccine rallies and events throughout the United States. During the COVID-19 pandemic,Sampson was a vocal opponent of public health measures taken to limit the spread of the pandemic in Maine,participating in rallies and demonstrations against business closures,gathering limits,mask wearing and vaccinations. Sampson has made comparisons of vaccine and mask mandates to Nazi atrocities during the Holocaust.
Sharri MacDonald is an American politician from Maine. She served in the city council of Old Orchard Beach until 2013,when she was recalled after a controversial vote in the council to terminate Old Orchard Beach's Town Manager. She served in the Maine House of Representatives from 2012 to 2014 from District 132,as a member of the Republican Party.
