Erne Palais Ballroom was a ballroom in Belturbet, County Cavan. [1]
The Erne Palais Ballroom was originally built as The Erne Cinema in the town of Belturbet, County Cavan in 1947. It was a cinema until 1963, when it was sold to Tom and Michael Corrigan. They installed a Canadian maple wooden floor, and opened the building as the Erne Palais Ballroom on Thursday 10 October 1963 with the band the Mighty Avons playing. After a number of years as a successful ballroom, the building was sold in 1979 and became the Palais Community Centre. As a community centre it still played host to local dances. At some point after the 1980s, the building fell into disuse. There were plans to demolish the site in 2007, which did not go ahead. [2] [1]
On 24 September 2018, the building caught fire and was gutted. Due to the roof being constructed from asbestos, a special clean up was commenced in the days after the fire. [3] [4]
The building had a pitched corrugated asbestos roof with a chimney. The front gable is smooth rendered, with a semi-circular apex over square shoulders, concave curves ending over rectangular blocks. The front gable also features a blind oculus over a rounded central first floor window. [1]

Castle Saunderson is a castle near Belturbet in County Cavan, Ireland. It was the former family seat of the Saunderson family, and is now in ruins. The Finn River flows along the north-eastern edge of the Castle Saunderson Demesne, where the river enters a narrow channel of Upper Lough Erne. The castle is about a half a mile west from Wattlebridge, a small hamlet in the south-south-east of County Fermanagh.
Lough Oughter is a lake, or complex of lakes, in County Cavan covering more than 8,900 hectares. The complex of lakes lies on the River Erne, and forms the southern part of the Lough Erne complex. The former church was designed by Alexander Brown Wilson and built from 1885 to c. 1916. The former church was also known as East Brisbane Presbyterian Church. The building was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 22 October 1993.
The Belturbet bombing occurred on 28 December 1972 when a car bomb planted by Loyalist paramilitaries exploded in the main street in the border town of Belturbet in County Cavan in the Republic of Ireland. The bomb killed two teenagers Geraldine O'Reilly (15) and Patrick Stanley (16). Nobody claimed responsibility for the bombing but security services believe the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) carried out the attack. The attack happened just a few weeks after two people were killed and 127 injured when two car bombs exploded in the centre of Dublin, Republic of Ireland on 1 December 1972. On the same day as the Belturbet bombing, two other bombs exploded in border counties, the first in Clones, County Monaghan which injured two people and the second in Pettigo in County Donegal which caused injury to a single female victim. The three bombs all exploded within 49 minutes of each other, all three bombings were believed to be part of a co-ordinated attack attributed to a single organization.
Mount Panther is an historic country house located between Dundrum and Clough in Northern Ireland. The house dates from the 1700s and has been derelict for some years. In 2009 it was offered for sale for £5m along with 140 acres of farm and parkland. In 2014 it was considered a complete ruin with a reduced demesne of 80 acres. The 2019 Cavan Intermediate Football Championship was the 55th edition of Cavan GAA's premier Gaelic football tournament for intermediate graded clubs in County Cavan, Ireland. The tournament consists of 15 teams, with the winner representing Cavan in the Ulster Intermediate Club Football Championship.
