Erold Naomab (born 2 April 1977) is a Namibian academic. He is the vice-chancellor of the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). Dr. Erold Naomab is also the Chairperson of the board Association of African Universities for Southern Africa (AAU SARO Board). [1]
Naomab was born on 2 April 1977. He grew up Omaruru in the Erongo Region of Namibia. He attended schools in Omaruru,Okombahe and Otjiwarongo. After a brief stint at a consultancy firm,Naomab started tertiary education at the University of Namibia,graduating with Bachelor and Master of Science. He then studied at Nottingham Trent University in England and obtained another master's degree (Research in Strategic Resource Management) as well as a PhD in Science. [2]
Dr. Erold Naomab worked at the Southern Campus of the University of Namibia (UNAM) in Keetmanshoop where he rose to the position of assistant pro-vice chancellor,UNAM's highest-ranking administrator at that campus. [3] In January 2021 he was appointed vice-chancellor of the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST),succeeding the founding rector Tjama Tjivikua,and taking over from Andrew Niikondo who acted in that position. University of Namibia Student Representative Council was founded on 20 February 1992,and is recognised as the legal representative body for the students of the University of Namibia by the University of Namibia Act 18 of 1992. It is responsible for representing the interests of the students to the management of the University and to local and national government. It consists of representatives from all twelve campuses across Namibia.
Student politics in Namibia encompasses the activities and culture among Namibian students,mostly from the tertiary level of education such as the University of Namibia,Namibia University of Science and Technology and the International University of Management. It is mostly played by youth &student leaders from Namibia National Students Organization,UNAM SRC,NUST SRC and other student organizations who liaise nationally with the government to address student issues.
NUST SRC is the legal student representative body of the Namibia University of Science and Technology students in Namibia. Based on Windhoek,it was formed in 1995 and represents 19 000 students of the university's student population.
Andrew Niikondo is a Namibian academic. He is the pro-vice-chancellor for academic affairs of the Namibia University of Science and Technology and the chairperson of the think tank of SWAPO.
