The politics of Zambia takes place in a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic,whereby the president of Zambia is head of state,head of government and leader of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government,while legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. Formerly Northern Rhodesia,Zambia became a republic immediately upon attaining independence in October 1964.

He has led the United Party for National Development since 2006 following the death of the party founder Anderson Mazoka.
James John Skinner was an Irish-born Zambian politician and jurist. He was the first Minister of Justice of independent Zambia and the only White member of Zambia's first cabinet. Following his time as a Zambian jurist,Skinner moved to neighbouring Malawi,where he was Chief Justice of Malawi from 1970 to 1985. His final judicial appointment was as a Social Security Commissioner in England from 1986 to 1996.
The National Election Commission is independent constitutional institution in South Korea,established to manage free and fair elections,national referendums and other administrative affairs concerning political parties and funds. The agency was established in accordance with Article 114 of the Constitution of South Korea. The NEC has equal status as highest constitutional institution as National Assembly,the Executive Ministries,the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court. This highly independent status of NEC reflects national will to overcome past histories such as election rigging of South Korea in 1960.
Vincent Cyril Richard Arthur Charles (V.C.R.A.C.) Crabbe was a Ghanaian jurist and statesman who served as a judge of the Supreme Court of Ghana in the second Ghanaian republic from 1970 to 1972 and the third republic from 1980 to 1982. Before serving on the supreme court,he formed and headed an electoral commission,Ghana's first,to conduct the 1969 Ghanaian Election for democratic rule in Ghana after military rule. He chaired the Constituent Assembly of 1979 that deliberated over and presented a constitution for Ghana's third democratic Republic before his reappointment to the supreme court.
Presidential elections were held in Zambia on 20 January 2015 to elect a president to serve the remainder of the term of President Michael Sata,following his death on 28 October 2014.
General elections were held in Zambia on 11 August 2016 to elect the President and National Assembly. A constitutional referendum was held alongside the elections,with proposals to amend the bill of rights and Article 79.
Edgar Chagwa Lungu is a Zambian politician who served as the sixth president of Zambia from 25 January 2015 to 24 August 2021. Under President Michael Sata,Lungu served as Minister of Justice and Minister of Defence. Following Sata's death in October 2014,Lungu was adopted as the candidate of the ruling Patriotic Front in a Convention of the Patriotic Front in Kabwe,for the January 2015 presidential by-election,which was to determine who would serve out the remainder of Sata's term. In the election,he narrowly defeated opposition candidate Hakainde Hichilema and took office on 25 January 2015.
Inonge Mutukwa Wina is a Zambian politician who served as the 13th vice-president of Zambia from 2015 to 2021. She was the first woman to hold the position,which made her the highest ranking woman in the history of the Zambian government.

Irene Chirwa Mambilima was the Chief Justice of Zambia from 2015 until her death in 2021. She also served as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Zambia and presided over the 2006 and 2011 general elections and the January 2015 presidential by-election. She was part of several election observer missions including in Liberia,Kenya,Mozambique,and Seychelles. Her other international assignments included serving as Sessional Judge of the Supreme Court of The Gambia in 2003. Mambilima sat on the International Board of the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) as a Director of the Africa Region. She was also a member of several professional associations including the Zambia Association of Women Judges,the Editorial Board Council of Law Reporting,the Child Fund (Zambia),Women in Law Southern Africa,and the Council of the Institution of Advanced Legal Education.
David Kenani Maraga is a Kenyan lawyer and jurist. He was the 14th chief justice and president of the Supreme Court of Kenya from October 2016 till his retirement in January 2021.
Lombe Phyllis Chibesakunda is a Zambian lawyer and diplomat. She has been the chairperson of the Human Rights Commission of Zambia,Solicitor General,Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Legal Affairs,acting Chief Justice of Zambia,and has served as an Ambassador to Japan,the United Kingdom,the Vatican,and the Netherlands. Chibesakunda is the first woman president of the COMESA Court of Justice,in Khartoum,Sudan.
General elections were held in Zambia on 12 August 2021 to elect the President,National Assembly,mayors,council chairs and councillors. Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development was elected president,defeating incumbent Edgar Lungu of the Patriotic Front.
Martha Karambu Koome is a Kenyan advocate,currently serving as the Chief Justice of Kenya,and is the first woman to occupy the post.
Mumba Malila is a Zambian Supreme Court Judge serving as the 9th Chief Justice of independent Zambia. He was appointed Chief Justice by President Hakainde Hichilema in 2021. Prior to his appointment,Malila was a Supreme Court Judge having been appointed by President Michael Sata directly to that position from being the Zambian Attorney General a post he held for the second time between 2011 to 2014. Malila had first held the position of Attorney General of Zambia between 2006 and 2009 serving under Presidents Levy Mwanawasa and Rupiah Banda. He had previously saved as the Chairperson of the Zambian Human Rights Commission and as a Commissioner on the African Commission on Human and Peoples’Rights and its Vice Chairperson from October 2006 to November 2011.
