Ethnogala

Ethnogala is an annual gala evening in Finland for performers of folk music and folk dance. It is organized by the Centre for Folk Music and Folk Dance in Finland.

Contents

Ethnogala was first arranged at the end of 2017, [1] and the second gala was arranged in January 2019. [2] [3] The gala was broadcast live by Yle in the internet, and can still be seen worldwide in Yle Areena. An edited version will later be broadcast by Yle on the television. [4]

Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with the song "Marry Me" written by Krista Siegfrids, Erik Nyholm, Kristofer Karlsson and Jessika Lundström. The song was performed by Krista Siegfrids. The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2013 in order to select the Finnish entry for the 2013 contest in Malmö, Sweden. 12 entries were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of two heats, a semi-final and a final, taking place in January and February 2013. Eight entries ultimately competed in the final on 9 February where the 50/50 combination of votes from a four-member judging panel and votes from the public selected "Marry Me" performed by Krista Siegfrids as the winner.

Kristin "Krista" Siegfrids is a Finnish pop singer. She represented Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with her entry "Marry Me". Siegfrids' debut album, named Ding Dong!, was released in May 2013. As a television presenter, she hosted Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu from 2016 to 2020.

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu is an annual music contest organised by the Finnish public broadcaster Yle. UMK began in 2012 as the new Finnish selection format for the Eurovision Song Contest, replacing the original Finnish Eurovision selection Suomen euroviisukarsinta which had been held since 1961.

Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 with the song "Aina mun pitää" written and performed by the band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät. The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2015 in order to select the Finnish entry for the 2015 contest in Vienna, Austria. 18 entries were selected to compete in the national final, which consisted of three semi-finals and a final, taking place in February 2015. Six entries competed in each semi-final and the top three from each semi-final, as selected solely by a public vote, advanced to the final. Nine entries competed in the final on 28 February where the combination of votes from eight jury groups representing different factions of Finnish society and votes from the public selected "Aina mun pitää" performed by Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät as the winner.

Pekko Käppi is a jouhikko musician from Tampere and a part-time teacher at the Sibelius Academy. He is also a composer, a producer and a researcher. He is trained as an ethnomusicologist, specializing in traditional folk music. He performs together with his band K:H:H:L, which stands for ‘the bones of dead horses out of control’.

Hildá Birget Länsman, also known by her Saami name as Ánn-Ovllá Káre Jari Hildá is a Sámi singer, yoiker, and musician from Finland. In addition to performing with her own bands Duo Vildá and Gájanas, she also frequently performing with her mother Ulla Pirttijärvi, both with their band Solju and on some of her mother's albums. Länsman also often appears as a guest artist on songs by other musicians and bands.

Rita Marketta Behm is a Finnish singer and songwriter. She uses her surname as her stage name. Behm rose to popularity in 2019 when Warner Music Finland released her hit single "Hei rakas", a number-one hit in Finland for 10 consecutive weeks.

Finland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "Dark Side" written by Aleksi Kaunisvesi, Joonas Porko, Joel Hokka, Niko Moilanen and Olli Matela. The song was performed by the band Blind Channel. The Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio (Yle) organised the national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2021 in order to select the Finnish entry for the 2021 contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. Seven entries were selected to compete in the national final on 20 February 2021 where the combination of votes from seven international jury groups and votes from the public selected "Dark Side" performed by Blind Channel as the winner.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">KOM-teatteri</span> Theatre in Helsinki, Finland

KOM-teatteri (transl.KOM-theater) is a theater founded in 1971 in Ullanlinna, Helsinki. Before its founding, it operated as an independent group for one year at the Swedish Theatre in 1970/1969. It was one of the major names of the leftist political song movements of the 1970s, which influenced Finnish politics, together with Agit-prop. KOM-teatteri has released a total of 12 total albums, which during the 1970s mostly consisted of leftist or Industrial folk music. It is primarily a drama theater today, with the occasional has various concerts or progams.
