The Ryder Cup is a biennial men's golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States. The competition is contested every two years with the venue alternating between courses in the United States and Europe. The Ryder Cup is named after the English businessman Samuel Ryder who donated the trophy. The event is jointly administered by the PGA of America and Ryder Cup Europe, the latter a joint venture of the PGA European Tour (60%), the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland (20%), and the PGAs of Europe (20%).
Lee John Westwood is an English professional golfer. Noted for his consistency, he is one of the few golfers who has won tournaments on five continents – Europe, North America, Asia, Africa and Oceania – including victories on the European Tour and the PGA Tour. He has also won tournaments in four decades, the 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. He was named European Tour Golfer of the Year for the 1998, 2000, 2009 and 2020 seasons. The Presidents Cup is a series of men's golf matches between a team representing the United States and an International Team representing the rest of the world minus Europe. Europe competes against the United States in a similar but considerably older event, the Ryder Cup.

Selangor Football Club, is a Malaysian professional football club based in the city of Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The club is currently competes in the Malaysia Super League, the top tier of Malaysian football. The club is nicknamed the Red Giants. Officially founded in 1936 by the Football Association of Selangor (FAS), the association built its football development as a result of a merger with the Selangor Association Football League and forming the professional football team known as Selangor. On 2 October 2020, the club officially made its privatization under a new entity as Selangor Football Club after it was officially approved by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) on 29 September 2020. The club currently plays its home games at the Petaling Jaya Stadium after the club's original home ground, the Shah Alam Stadium, was closed to undergo major renovation and rebuilding work which was prolonged for an extended period of time.

It was held from 27–29 March at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The match ended in a 10–10 tie and, under the rules of the inaugural event, the Cup was shared between the teams.

The 2016 EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM was the second edition of the EurAsia Cup, a team golf event contested between teams representing Asia and Europe. It was held from 15–17 January at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. The inaugural event in 2014 finished in a tie, and so the Cup was shared between the teams. For the 2016 edition, the team size was increased from 10 to 12 with a corresponding increase in the number of matches from 20 to 24.
The Maybank Championship was a professional golf tournament, co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and the European Tour, that was played annually in Malaysia. The tournament was founded in 2016 by sponsors Maybank, who had previously sponsored the Malaysian Open, with the inaugural tournament played from 18–21 February at Royal Selangor Golf Club in Kuala Lumpur. It had a purse of US$3,000,000.

The Hero Cup is a golf tournament between teams of professional male golfers; one team representing Great Britain and Ireland, the other team representing Continental Europe. The tournament was first played in 2023, but the competition is reminiscent of the Seve Trophy which was held eight times between 2000 and 2013.
