Kristian Olaf Bernhard Birkeland was a Norwegian scientist. He is best remembered for his theories of atmospheric electric currents that elucidated the nature of the aurora borealis. In order to fund his research on the aurorae, he invented the electromagnetic cannon and the Birkeland–Eyde process of fixing nitrogen from the air. Birkeland was nominated for the Nobel Prize seven times.

She also headed the Risør Chamber Music Festival, and was the director of Concerts Norway.
Kari Gjesteby is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. She has never been a member of the Norwegian Parliament, but has been State Secretary for three tenures, as well as Minister of Trade and Shipping from February to October 1981 and Minister of Justice and the Police from 1990 to 1992. After her political career she has been a director in the Bank of Norway, director of the National Library of Norway and the Norwegian Library of Talking Books and Braille and, from 2009 to 2013, the first female State Conciliator of Norway.
Eva Severine Lundegaard Kolstad was a Norwegian politician and government minister for the Liberal Party, and a central figure in the history of gender equality and liberal feminism in Norway and internationally. She served as President of the Norwegian Association for Women's Rights (1956–1968), member and vice chairman of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (1969–1975), Minister of Government Administration and Consumer Affairs of Norway in Korvald's Cabinet (1972–1973), leader of the Liberal Party (1974–1976) and as Norwegian Gender Equality Ombudsman (1978–1988), the first gender equality ombudsman worldwide. She contributed significantly to the development of the United Nations' gender equality policies.
Øystein Mæland is a Norwegian psychiatrist, civil servant and politician for the Labour Party. In 2011, Mæland was appointed director of the National Police Directorate, a position he retained until August 2012 when he resigned in the wake of the Gjørv Report. He has since 2014 been director of Akershus University Hospital.
Målfrid Grude Flekkøy was a Norwegian chief psychologist and civil servant. Having worked for several years in different health and educational institutions for children she was appointed as Children's Commissioner in Norway from 1981 to 1989, the first person in the world to hold such a position. She established and developed the role, and after eight years the UN Organization for Children UNICEF engaged her to assist in spreading the institution to other countries. Målfrid Grude Flekkøy travelled extensively, participated in professional organizations and wrote books and articles on children's rights. At her death in 2013, more the 80 children's commissioners had been set up around the world.
Concerts Norway was established in 1967 on the initiative of the Arts Council Norway, with its main purpose described as follows: "Concerts Norway is to make living music of high artistic quality accessible to all people in the country." The organization had its opening concert in Hammerfest school on 4 January 1968, with artists Liv Glaser, Eva Knardahl, Kjell Bækkelund, Robert Levin, Arve Tellefsen and Aase Nordmo Løvberg.

She was a political adviser to Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland in the Prime Minister's Office from 1992 to 1996. She was also a member of the Oslo city council from 1992 to 1996. She worked as a civil servant at the Norwegian Directorate of Health from 1978 to 1983, at the Royal Ministry of Health from 1997 to 1998 and as a consultant at IBM Global Services from 1998 to 2005.
