As of the 2020 census it had a population of 2,245, slightly down from 2,370 in 2010. Milan is located approximately 90 miles (140 km) north of New York City, 60 miles (97 km) south of Albany, and 150 miles (240 km) west of Boston. It is bordered by Rhinebeck and Red Hook to the west, Pine Plains to the east, Stanford to the southeast, Clinton to the south, and Gallatin to the north by Columbia County. The only major route in the town is the historic Taconic State Parkway, though NY 199 serves as the main local thoroughfare.

Shekomeko was a historic hamlet in the southwestern part of the town of North East, New York, United States) in present-day Dutchess County. It was a village of the Mahican people. They lived by a stream which Anglo-Americans later named Shekomeko Creek, after their village. Shekomeko comes from Mahikanneuw and means "people of the place of eels ["linear fish"], from "shaxk" - linear, straight; "amek" = fish; = locative suffix "ink", + ethnonymial locative suffix "oik" - Shaxkaminkoik > Shekomeko.

The Heights of Guan is a historical name given to a series of hills extending in a ridge along western Long Island in New York State. The ridge extends in an east-northeast direction across the modern-day New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, with hills varying in height from 100 to 150 feet. The southern slope of the ridge has a relatively steep drop and the northern slope is more gradual. Further to the south is an outwash plain bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. Geologically, the ridge is part of the Harbor Hill Moraine formed 13,000 to 12,000 years ago during the Wisconsin glaciation.

Carlyle is a ghost town in Wibaux County, Montana, United States, located approximately 1 to 1+1⁄2 miles west of the North Dakota border, sitting on a ranch, which incorporated the once agricultural town into grazing land. Some of the buildings once a part of the town are just foundations, however, a farmstead east of the town is still standing, with the school house, grain elevators and a couple of the homes inside the town. Southeast of the town of Carlyle is the cemetery. Carlyle had a population of 221 in the 1940s, with access to the North Pacific Railroad branch out of Beach, North Dakota.
Theodore de Lemos, son of Hermann and Maria Grothe De Lemos of Holstein, was an architect. He graduated with honors from the Berlin Royal Academy of Buildings, and was famous for his designs in three countries, Germany, Mexico, and the United States. In 1881, de Lemos left Germany and settled in New York, where he married Margaretta Becker and had a daughter, Marie Katherine. He died in April 1909 and is interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, New York City.

Evergreen Cemetery is a burial ground located in Rutland Town, Vermont. It is managed by the Rutland Evergreen Cemetery Association. Evergreen was founded as Pine Hill Cemetery in 1861, and the name was subsequently changed.
