Zeng Fanzhi is a contemporary Chinese artist based in Beijing. From the earliest stages of his career, his paintings have been marked by their emotional directness, the artist's intuitive psychological sense, and his carefully calibrated expressionistic technique. Moving to Beijing in the early 1990s, Zeng's art displayed an immediate shift, responding to his immersion in a more superficial environment, his seminal Mask series displaying the tensions between the artist's dominant existential concerns and an ironic treatment of the pomposity and posturing inherent to his new contemporary urban life. Throughout, Zeng's expressionistic techniques run counter to such techniques' conventional usage. That is, Zeng's representation of raw, exposed flesh or awkwardly oversized hands is not an attempt at pure emotional expression, but instead play against the superficially composed appearances of his subjects, an ironic treatment of emotional performance as a metaphor for a lost self, of stunted self-realization.

Caochangdi was an urban village and renowned arts district located in the Chaoyang District of northeast Beijing at the intersection of the 5th Ring Road and Airport Expressway. Translated as "grasslands" in Mandarin, Caochangdi was home to a diverse group of residents, including migrant workers, farmers, students and artists, most notably, Ai Weiwei. Caochangdi developed into a thriving arts and cultural hub when artists began to move into the area around 2000, attracting international attention similar to the nearby 798 Art Zone. Demolition of the village began in July 2018.

Sheng Qi is a Chinese performance artist and painter. He was one of the original founders of the Chinese performance art group, Concept 21. Sheng Qi graduated from Beijing Academy of Art and Design in 1988. In 1989, in protest to the massacre at Tiananmen Square, he chopped off the little finger on his left hand and buried it in a porcelain flowerpot, which remained in Beijing during his subsequent exile in Europe.
Henry Hudson is a British artist who lives and works in London. He is best known for his use of Plasticine as his artistic medium in the creation of textured ‘paintings’. Hudson's most notable exhibition to date was The Rise and Fall of Young Sen – The Contemporary Artist’s Progress, which was shown at Sotheby's SI2 Gallery, London in May 2015. The exhibition consisted of ten large scale Plasticine paintings, depicting a contemporary version of William Hogarth's ARake's Progress. According to the New York Times, all ten paintings were sold prior to the show opening.
Wu Junyong is a Chinese artist born in Putian, a city in Fujian province, China. He graduated from The China Academy of Art were he studied in both the Prinmaking and New Media departments. He now lives and works in Hangzhou. His predominant medium is paintings done on paper and animated films, though in recent years he has become infatuated with doing graffiti on the body and impromptu tattoos.

Zheng Lu (郑路) is an artist based in Beijing. Zheng Lu studied at Lu Xun Fine art Academy from 1998 to 2003 before continuing to Beijing's prestigious Central Academy of Fine Arts from 2004 until 2007. While still in school Zheng won the LVMH Prize which provided the artist with three months training at The École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, ENSBA, Paris. Zheng has mainly produced sculpture and installation work with steel structure, and also two-dimensional, multimedia, stage and public art.
Chu Teh-Chun or Zhu Dequn was a Chinese-French abstract painter acclaimed for his pioneering style integrating traditional Chinese painting techniques with Western abstract art. Chu Teh-Chun enrolled in the National School of Fine Arts, where he studied under Fang Ganmin and Wu Dayu. He was the first ethnic Chinese member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts of France, and together with Wu Guanzhong and Zao Wou-Ki were dubbed the "Three Musketeers" of modernist Chinese artists trained in China and France.

ShanghART Gallery is founded in 1996 by Swiss gallerist Lorenz Helbling as one of the first contemporary art galleries established in China. Initially operating out of a hotel, it has since expanded to four gallery spaces, two in Shanghai, and one each in Beijing and Singapore. For the past two decades, ShanghART has devoted to the development of contemporary art in China and kept close and long-term cooperation with more than 60 artists, building an audience for artists ranging from painters such as Yu Youhan and abstractionist Ding Yi, to artists midway through their career, Zhou Tiehai and Yang Fudong, as well as emerging artists like Zhang Ding and Chen Wei. The Singapore space in Gillman Barracks, established in 2013, extended their outreach to Southeast Asian artists such as Robert Zhao Renhui and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
