Yash Raj Chopra was an Indian film director and film producer who worked in Hindi cinema. The founding chairman of the film production and distribution company Yash Raj Films, Chopra was the recipient of several awards, including 6 National Film Awards and 8 Filmfare Awards. He is considered among the best Hindi filmmakers, particularly known and admired for his romantic films with strong female leads. For his contributions to film, the Government of India honoured him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001, and the Padma Bhushan in 2005. In 2006, British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented him with a lifetime membership, making him the first Indian to receive the honour.
Silsila (transl. Continuation) is a 1981 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film co-written, directed, and produced by Yash Chopra. The story revolves around the love triangle of Amit, a romantic playwright, Shobha, his wife, and Chandni (Rekha), his former partner. Silsila follows the incidents faced by Amit and Shobha in their marriage of sacrifice and Amit's extramarital affair with Chandni. The soundtrack was composed by Shiv–Hari, with lyrics from Javed Akhtar, Hasan Kamal, Meera Dev Burman, Nida Fazli, Rajendra Krishan, and Harivansh Rai Bachchan.
Darr: A Violent Love Story is a 1993 Indian Hindi-language psychological thriller film directed and produced by Yash Chopra under his banner Yash Raj Films. The film stars Sunny Deol, Juhi Chawla, Shah Rukh Khan, and in the lead roles, with Annu Kapoor, Tanvi Azmi and Anupam Kher in supporting roles, and Dalip Tahil in a special appearance. In the film, Rahul (Khan) is obsessed with Kiran (Chawla) and stalks her constantly. However, Rahul goes berserk when she gets engaged to Sunil (Deol), a navy officer, and he decides to forcefully claim Kiran for himself.The film DARR is inspired by 1991 American Psychological thriller film Cape Fear.
Chandni (transl. Moonlight) is a 1989 Indian Hindi-language romantic musical directed and co-produced by Yash Chopra from a story written by Kamna Chandra with a screenplay by Umesh Kalbagh, Arun Kaul, and Sagar Sarhadi. The film stars Sridevi in the title role of Chandni Mathur, a young effervescent woman torn between two suitors played by Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor. Waheeda Rehman, Anupam Kher, Sushma Seth, Mita Vashisht, and Manohar Singh feature in supporting roles.
Waqt is a 1965 Indian Hindi-language Bollywood masala film directed by Yash Chopra, produced by B. R. Chopra and written by Akhtar Mirza and Akhtar-Ul-Iman. It was included in the British Film Institute's long list of films in consideration for its top ten of Indian films award. Released in India on 28 July 1965, the film stars an ensemble cast of Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Sadhana Shivdasani, Sharmila Tagore, Balraj Sahni, Achala Sachdev, Rehman and Madan Puri. It pioneered the concept of Hindi films with ensemble casts.

He acted in over 100 films from the 1970s through to his death at the age of 45 in 1990. He was also the producer and director of the film Gurudev which was released 3 years after his death.
