Fabian Florant (born 1 February 1983) is a Dominican born Dutch triple jumper. Florant qualified to compete at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the men's triple jump.
Florant was born on 1 February 1983 in Roseau, Dominica. [1] [2] He attended St Mary's Primary and St Mary's Academy schools on the island. He holds a Dutch passport through his Dutch mother. [2] He attended Lindenwood University from 2002 to 2004, [3] then later graduated from Missouri State University in 2006 with a Bachelors of Science in finance. He also received a master's degree in Administration with Business and Sports Management Emphasis in 2009. [4]
As a junior in Dominica Florant set national records in the under-17s triple jump, under-20s 100 metres and the senior 4 × 100 metres relay. He won a bronze medal at the Carifta Games in the under-17s triple jump. [2] At the 2002 World Junior Championships in Athletics, held in Kingston, Jamaica, he represented Dominica, finishing seventh in his heat in the 100 metres. [1] Whilst at Lindenwood University he won both the indoor and outdoor National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics triple jump titles in 2003 and was second in the 2004 indoor competition. He was named an All-American on four occasions. [3]
Florant has won nine Dutch triple jump titles, five outdoors and four indoors. [5] He competed at the 2012 European Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Finland, representing the Netherlands in the men's triple jump. He placed 13th in the qualifying round with a jump of 16.35 metres but did not advance to the final. At the 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, he reached the final of the triple jump and broke his own national indoor record whilst finishing eighth. [2] [6] During his outdoor season, Fabian also won the European Team Championships-1st League which was held in Dublin, Ireland.
In 2014 the Dutch Athletics Federation withdrew funding for triple jump athletes and Florant was forced to re-enter the corporate world by taking a job as a portfolio manager at a bank in Florida in the United States, where he was also training. [7]
In 2016 at a track & field professional competition in Clermont, Florida, he set a new personal best and Dutch record with a jump of 16.92 meters, beating the standard of 16.85 meters required for qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He also won the European Club Championships-1st League in Leiria, Portugal. [7] [8] Florant is 20x undefeated Dutch Champion (Indoor & Outdoor) and record holder for both. Today, Fabian is considered the best triple jumper in the history of The Netherlands.[ citation needed ]

Phillips Olaosebikan Idowu, is a British athlete who specialised in the triple jump and was active at elite level between 2000 and 2014. He is a former World Outdoor and Indoor, European Outdoor and Indoor, and Commonwealth triple jump champion. He was also a silver medalist at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Idowu is a member of the London-based Belgrave Harriers athletics club and has been for much of his career.

Teddy Tamgho is a French triple jumper and long jumper. He specialises in the triple jump. He is the former triple jump world indoor record holder, achieved in winning the final and gold medal at the 2011 European Indoor Championships. He is the world's sixth best ever triple jumper outdoors, with his best mark of 18.04 metres achieved in winning the final and gold medal at the 2013 World Championships.

Paraskevi "Voula" Papachristou is a former Greek triple jumper and long jumper. She won two gold medals at the European Athletics U23 Championships and took the third place at the 2016 World indoor Championships. She was removed from the Greek team for the 2012 London Olympics by the Greek Olympic Committee after making a racist comment online. At the 2016 Summer Olympics' final in Rio de Janeiro, she took the 8th place. In 2018 she was the European Champion in Berlin with a jump of 14,60 metres.

She holds the European record in the 200 metres with a time of 21.63 seconds, making her the sixth-fastest woman of all time at this distance. She also holds the Dutch records in the 100 metres and long jump, and shares the Dutch records in the 60 metres indoor and 4 × 100 metres relay.
Christian Taylor is a retired American track and field athlete who competed in the triple jump and has a personal record of 18.21 m, which ranks 2nd on the all-time list.
Nadine Broersen is a Dutch track and field athlete, specializing in the heptathlon and high jump. She was the 2014 World Indoor pentathlon champion. Broersen competes for the track and field club AV Sprint in Breda.
Omar Craddock is an American track and field athlete who competes in the triple jump. With the University of Florida he won one indoor and two outdoor NCAA titles in the event. He competed alongside Christian Taylor and Will Claye in a succession of elite level triple jumpers to come from the Florida Gators track and field team.
The men's triple jump competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event was held at the Olympic Stadium on 15–16 August. Forty-seven athletes from 35 nations competed. The event was won by Christian Taylor of the United States, the fifth man to successfully defend Olympic gold in the triple jump. It was the United States' eighth victory in the event. Just as in London four years earlier, Will Claye took silver; the two Americans were the 13th and 14th men to win multiple medals in the event. Dong Bin of China earned bronze, the nation's first medal in the men's triple jump.

Dominica participated at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro from 5 to 21 August 2016. The country's participation in Rio marked its sixth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The delegation included two athletes: Yordanys Durañona and Thea LaFond, both competing in the men's and women's triple jump, respectively. The former qualified for the Games by meeting qualification standards while the latter entered the quadrennial event through a wildcard place. Neither athlete progressed further than the first round of their sport events.

He is the world indoor record holder in the triple jump with a jump of 18.07 m set in 2021 and the reigning world champion, winning the gold medal in the triple jump at the 2023 World Championships. Zango competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and won the bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, in the triple jump event, the first ever Olympic medal for Burkina Faso. Yordanys Durañona García is a Cuban-born triple jumper, who competed internationally for Dominica. Switching allegiance from his native Cuba in 2011, he represented Dominica in a multitude of international tournaments, including the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2015 Pan American Games, and 2016 Summer Olympics. Durañona also achieved his outdoor best jump of 17.20 m (-1.0 m/s) at the 2014 Pan American Sports Festival in Mexico City.

Thea Noeliva LaFond is a Dominican-American track and field athlete who competes in the triple jump. At the 2024 Summer Olympics, she won gold in the triple jump to claim the first-ever Olympic medal for Dominica. LaFond was also the 2024 World Indoor triple jump champion.
