Nairobi is the capital and largest city of Kenya. The name is derived from the Maasai phrase Enkare Nairobi,which translates to 'place of cool waters',a reference to the Nairobi River which flows through the city. Machakos County is one of the 47 counties of Kenya,which came into being because of the devolved system of governance occasioned by the 2010 constitution of Kenya. The country's first administrative headquarters are in Machakos Town,which is the largest town in the county. The county had a population of 1,421,932 as of 2019. The county borders Nairobi and Kiambu counties to the west,Embu to the north,Kitui to the east,Makueni to the south,Kajiado to the south west,and Muranga and Kirinyaga to the north west.
Charity Kaluki Ngilu is a Kenyan politician and the second governor elected for Kitui County. She unsuccessfully vied to be President of the Republic of Kenya in 1997. She served as Minister for Health from 2003 until 2007 and Minister of Water and Irrigation from April 2008 to 2013. The Wagalla massacre was a massacre of ethnic Somalis by the Kenyan Army on 10 February 1984 in Wajir County,Kenya. Government troops were ordered to stop clan violence in the area,and did so by first detaining some 5,000 locals at an airstrip,denying them food and water for a week,and then shooting them. The massacre was not investigated by Kenya's government until 2011.

Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya is a Kenyan politician who served as the governor of Kakamega County from 2013 to 2022. He was elected on 4 March 2013 and became the first governor of Kakamega County following promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya in 2010 and subsequently in August 2017,for his second term as the governor. He is,therefore,the pioneer Governor of Kakamega County under the devolved system of governance in Kenya that established 47 counties. He was previously Minister of State for Planning,National Development and Vision 2030 in the government of the late President Mwai Kibaki. He was appointed on 14 January 2019 as the Council of Governors of Kenya chairperson. Wycliffe Oparanya is also the current Ford Kenya Party deputy party leader.
Peter Anyang' Nyong'o is a Kenyan politician and author who is the Governor of Kisumu County. He is a former Secretary-General of Orange Democratic Movement. Professor Nyong'o was the acting party leader from March 11 until late May when Raila Odinga was in the United States and was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election,representing the Kisumu Rural Constituency. He was the Minister for Medical Services and previously the Minister for Planning &National Development. He previously served as the Senator of Kisumu from 2013 to 2017.
Hassan Ali Joho is a Kenyan politician and the former Governor of Mombasa County affiliated with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He was also elected to represent the Kisauni Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya during the 2007 Kenyan parliamentary election. On 4 March 2013,during the general election,Joho was elected as the first governor of Mombasa County. In the 2017 General Elections held on 8 August,Joho retained his seat on an ODM ticket. Despite significant politically engineered setbacks,Joho emerged triumphant by winning with 220 576 votes against his closest rival Suleiman Shahbal with 69 322 votes,Suleiman was a member of the Jubilee Party. Joho served as governor of Mombasa until 2022,when he completed the constitunionally allowed two five-year terms. He was succeded by Abdulswammad Sherrif Nassir the former member of the National Assembly for Mvita Constituency.
Maitha Gideon Mung'aro is a Kenyan politician who has served as the governor of Kilifi County since August 2022. As a member of the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy and the Orange Democratic Movement,he was elected to represent Kilifi North Constituency in the National Assembly in the 2013 parliamentary election. He was the chairman of the African Union Parliamentary Group. He was also the chief whip,succeeding Jakoyo Midiwo. He was a member of the Parliamentary House Business Committee (Housekeeping),Committee on Selection (Housekeeping) and the Lands Committee (Departmental). He is also a former mayor of Malindi and represented Malindi Constituency in parliament before it was split.

The Colony and Protectorate of Kenya,commonly known as British Kenya or British East Africa,was part of the British Empire in Africa. It was established when the former East Africa Protectorate was transformed into a British Crown colony in 1920. Technically,the "Colony of Kenya" referred to the interior lands,while a 16 km (10 mi) coastal strip,nominally on lease from the Sultan of Zanzibar,was the "Protectorate of Kenya",but the two were controlled as a single administrative unit. The colony came to an end in 1963 when an ethnic Kenyan majority government was elected for the first time and eventually declared independence.
The Counties of Kenya are geographical units created by the 2010 Constitution of Kenya as the new units of devolved government. They replaced the previous provincial system. The establishment and executive powers of the counties is provided in Chapter Eleven of the Constitution on devolved government,the Constitution's Fourth Schedule and any other legislation passed by the Senate of Kenya concerning counties. The counties are also single-member constituencies which elect members of the Senate,and special woman members to the National Assembly.
General elections were held in Kenya on Tuesday,9 August 2022. Voters elected the president,governors,senators,members of the National Assembly,and members of county assemblies.
