Farid Khayrullovich Mukhametshin [lower-alpha 1] (born 22 May 1947) is a Russian politician and a former prime minister of Tatarstan. He is an ethnic Tatar.
Mukhametshin was elected in March 1994 to the upper chamber of the Federal Assembly of Russia. [2]
He was chairman of the Supreme Council and State Council of Tatarstan Republic from July 1991 to January 1995. He is the current[ when? ] chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan Republic since 27 May 1998. [3]

Tatarstan — New Age is a political group in the State Council of Tatarstan. Formed by former United Russia members who broke away from the party, it is led by Rinat Zakirov while State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin is also affiliated with the group. Its policies include mild Tatar nationalism, the expansion of social welfare, and environmentalism.
The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Tatarstan was a subnational constitutional court of Tatarstan, a republic within Russia. The Court exercised constitutional control over regional laws adopted by the regional legislature and decrees of the Head of Tatarstan, being the court of single instance for such cases.
