Faustina Namutenya Caley (born 17 November 1956) is a Namibian politician. [1] Faustia was born in Ruurumwe, Kavango West and grew up in Kavango East. Faustina is a Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Arts and Culture, a member of SWAPO party and was a member of National assembly (2015-2020). In 2017 Faustina was a Chairperson of the Parliamentary standing committee on ICT and Innovation. [2] The Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Arts and Culture has called for contractors to complete government school projects, to ease quality learning. [3] [4]

Early life

Faustina Caley was born on the 17 November 1956, in Ruurumwe, Kavango West and grew up at Sarusungu now known as Kaisosi,in Kavango East. She started her primary school in Kavango Region and finished her grade 12 at Rundu Secondary school. She hold several educational qualifications within Namibia and abroad.

She expressed her satisfaction with the completion of ablution facilities at schools in the Kavango East region when undertook a visit to the region to assess the renovation and construction of ablution facilities. [5]

Caley holds Diploma in Primary EducaMasters in Education (M.Ed), University of Manchester, United Kingdom (UK) (1999); Bachelor of Philosophy (B.Phil), University of Hull, United Kingdom (UK) (1998); Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Studies, MANCOSA, South Africa (2003tion, University of Namibia (UNAM)(1997); Social Worker Certificate, Augustineum Training College, Namibia (1979). [6]

Political career

Caley was a member of the National Assembly (2015-2020). The Deputy Basic Education, Arts and Culture Minister officiated the launch of sport Educational ministry’s annual sports games at Otjiwarongo. The games were aimed for creating a platform for the non-teaching staff members of the ministry and to also socialise, network and share best office practices within the ministry. She further stated that the ministry’s annual sports games started in 2008 and include netball, volleyball and soccer. [7]

Education in Namibia is compulsory for 10 years between the ages of 6 and 16. There are approximately 1900 schools in Namibia of which 100 are privately owned.
