The 2018 Field hockey at the 2018 Asian Games Qualification was the direct qualification for the Field hockey at the 2018 Asian Games for men. It was held from the 7th until the 18th of March 2018 in Muscat, Oman. [1]

Teams

Format

The eight teams will be split into two groups of four teams. The top two teams advance to the semifinals to determine the winner in a knockout system. The bottom two teams of each group play for the 5th to 8th place, also in a knockout system.

Field hockey at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro took place from 6 to 19 August at the Olympic Hockey Centre in Deodoro. The competition had instituted several changes in the format and structure from the 2012 Summer Olympics. Twenty-four teams competed in the tournament.

Chinese Taipei competed at the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima, Japan. This was their 6th appearance in the Asian Games. They won at total of 7 gold, 13 silver, and 24 bronze medals, or 44 medals in total. They improved from the previous Asian Games in 1990, where they won a total of 31 medals. They won the most medals in Judo, where they got a total of 1 silver and 5 bronze.

Chinese Taipei at the 2018 Asian Games Sporting event delegation

Chinese Taipei competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. At the last Games in Incheon, the country bagged a total 51 medals, including 10 gold, 18 silver, and 23 bronze. This time, Chinese Taipei is set to send a 738-strong team to compete in 36 of 40 sporting events, including 588 athletes.

Hong Kong competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. Hong Kong made its debut at the Asian Games in 1954 Manila, and the best achievement for the territory was in 2010 Asian Games held in neighboring Guangzhou, finishing with 8 gold, 15 silver and 17 bronze medals totaling 40 medals. At the previous edition in held 4 years later in Incheon, the total number of medals increased to 42, but the number of gold medals fell to 6, In Indonesia the performance of local athletes was satisfactory, improving the results obtained in 2010 and 2014 with 46 medals achieving the best results at the games.

Men's tournament for field hockey at the 2018 Asian Games was held at the Gelora Bung Karno Hockey Field, Jakarta, Indonesia from 20 August to 1 September 2018.

Twelve teams qualified for the women's field hockey at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Each of the Continental Champions from five confederations received an automatic berth. Japan as the host nation qualified automatically. In addition, the remaining six nations will be determined by an Olympic qualification event. As hosts Japan also won the Asian Games title, a seventh quota place was added to the Olympic qualification event.

Malaysia participated in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018. At the last edition in Incheon, the country placed 14 in the medals tally, with 5 gold medals from squash, sailing, and karate. In 2018 edition, Malaysia was represented by 447 athletes and 140 officials at the Games. Abdul Azim Mohamad Zabidi, the Appeals Committee chairman of the Olympic Council of Malaysia was the chief of the delegation.

Oman competed in the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia from 18 August to 2 September 2018 This event marks the 10th Asian Games appearance for Oman since making their debut in 1982.

Twelve national teams competed in the men's field hockey tournament at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia. Eighteen players were officially enrolled in each squad.

The 2022 Men's AHF Cup was the sixth edition of the Men's AHF Cup, a field hockey qualification tournament for the Men's Hockey Asia Cup organized by the Asian Hockey Federation. The event was held at the GBK Hockey Field in Jakarta, Indonesia from 11 to 20 March 2022.
