Filament Games is an American educational video game developer based in Madison, Wisconsin and founded in 2005 by partners Daniel White, Daniel Norton, and Alexander Stone. It is a full-service digital studio that develops learning games on a for-hire basis.
Filament's design philosophy based on the scholarship of Kurt Squire, [1] Constance Steinkuehler, and James Paul Gee. [2] Filament is also an affiliate of the annual Games Learning and Society Conference.
The company received national recognition for their series of civics games launched by Sandra Day O'Connor for iCivics, her civics-education initiative. [3] These games include Do I Have a Right?, Executive Command, and Liberty Belle's Immigration Nation. Filament has also developed games with partners such as Meta, [4] the Smithsonian Science Education Center, [5] and Columbia University. [6]

Smosh is an American YouTube sketch comedy-improv collective, independent production company, and former social networking site founded by Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox. In 2002, Padilla created a website named "smosh.com" for making Flash animations, and he was later joined by Hecox. The Serious Games Showcase and Challenge is a competition and a showcase event that was created to encourage video game developers to create products that are useful for non-entertainment purposes. The annual event made its first appearance as an exhibit space at the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) in 2006. The event accepts games from universities, businesses, and government organizations as entries in competition for awards prizes.
Destructoid is a website that was founded as a video game-focused blog in March 2006 by Yanier Gonzalez, a Cuban-American cartoonist and author. Enthusiast Gaming acquired the website in 2017 and sold it to Gamurs Group in 2022.
Amanita Design is a Czech independent video game developing company founded in 2003 by Jakub Dvorský and headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic. The company has created award-winning games including Machinarium, the Samorost series and Botanicula, as well as educational and advertising minigames and animations, all using Adobe Flash. Constance Steinkuehler (Squire) is an American professor of Informatics at the University of California, Irvine. She previously taught at the University of Wisconsin-Madison before taking public service leave, from 2011-2012, to work as a Senior Policy Analyst in the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) at the White House Executive Office, where she advised on policy matters about video games and digital media. After returning to academics, she and her partner Dr. Kurt Squire moved to University of California, Irvine where they continue to co-direct the Games+Learning+Society (GLS) Center today.
