Joseph Kim Mitchell is a Canadian rock musician. He was the lead singer and guitarist for the band Max Webster before going on to a solo career. His 1984 single, "Go for Soda", was his only charted song on the US Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 86. Several other singles such as "Patio Lanterns", "Rock and Roll Duty", and "Rockland Wonderland", reached the top 20 in Canada.

Several artists earned three awards on the night. Steely Dan's haul included Album of the Year for Two Against Nature. U2 took home the Record of the Year and Song of the Year for "Beautiful Day". Dr. Dre won Producer of the Year, Non-Classical and Best Rap Album for Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP. Eminem himself also received three awards, out of four nominations. Faith Hill took home Best Country Album for the album Breathe, Best Female Country Vocal Performance for the song's title track and Best Country Collaboration with Vocals with Tim McGraw for "Let's Make Love". Madonna opened the show with "Music".

It contains six live tracks; five of which were performed at The Oshawa Civic Auditorium in Oshawa, Ontario, and "Go For Soda" performed at The KEE to Bala, on Lake Muskoka, in Bala, Ontario. The album also contains two new studio tracks titled "I Am a Wild Party" and "Deep Dive", recorded live at rehearsal.

By 1996, the song had been broadcast on Canadian radio stations more than 100,000 times. The song was described by the CBC as "quintessentially Canadian".
"Go for Soda" is a song by Canadian singer Kim Mitchell. Mitchell wrote the music for the song himself, while the lyrics were written by Pye Dubois. The song's narrator, frustrated at his contentious relationship with his lover, opts to relax and forget about his troubles with a soda. "Go for Soda" was released in 1984 as the lead single from Mitchell's first full-length solo album, Akimbo Alogo. The song reached number 22 in Canada and was Mitchell's only charting single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, reaching number 86. It remains his best-known song outside of his native Canada.
"Willie and the Hand Jive" is a song written by Johnny Otis and originally released as a single in 1958 by Otis, reaching #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #5 on the Billboard R&B chart. The song has a Bo Diddley beat and was partly inspired by the music sung by a chain gang Otis heard while he was touring. The lyrics are about a man who became famous for doing a dance with his hands, but the song has been accused of glorifying masturbation, though Otis always denied it. The Pet Sounds 50th Anniversary World Tour was a worldwide concert tour by American musicians Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, and Blondie Chaplin held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys' album Pet Sounds (1966). She is best known as the violinist in The Wonder Stuff, one-half of acoustic duo Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls, and as a live fiddle player for The Proclaimers.
