Fionn McLoughlin (born 6 September 1982) is an Irish rugby union player. He has represented both Ireland and Wales at youth level. He plays centre, [4] winger [5] and fly half. [1] He is the son of former Ireland and British Lions prop Gerry McLoughlin. [6]

Early life

Born in Limerick, Republic of Ireland on 6 September 1982, [2] McLoughlin grew up in Wales where his father was a teacher. [6] In 1999, he played for Cardinal Newman Roman Catholic School in Rhydyfelin in the Welsh Schools Under-18 Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. [7]

Career

McLoughlin started his career at Shannon RFC where he played for Irish region Munster Rugby [8] He also played for Galwegians RFC and Connacht Rugby in 2001. [9] [10] In 2002, McLoughlin moved to Welsh club Caerphilly RFC where he took part in their 2002-03 European Shield campaign. [11] In 2007, McLoughlin moved to Pontypridd RFC on a dual-registration with Llanharan RFC. [12] [13] In 2008, McLoughlin joined Bedwas RFC owing to limited opportunities at Pontypridd. [2] [13] In 2009, McLoughlin returned to Ireland to rejoin Shannon where he helped them win the All-Ireland League. [14] During the [Northern Hemisphere] summer, he played in Australia for the University of Western Australia RUFC. [15]

Later that year, he had a trial with English RFU Championship team Plymouth Albion R.F.C., [8] where he was signed permanently. [5] In 2015, McLoughlin was signed by National League 2 South Old Elthamians. [16] In 2017, McLoughlin joined Tunbridge Wells RFC, [4] where he played a part in them achieving a second successive promotion. [3]

International career

McLoughlin has represented both the Wales national under-18 rugby union team [12] [17] and the Ireland national under-19 rugby union team [13] [18] at international level. He was also called up for the Ireland Club XV against England Counties XV. [19]

Thomond Park is a stadium in Limerick in the Irish province of Munster. The stadium is owned by the Munster Rugby and has Shannon RFC and UL Bohemian RFC as tenants. Limerick FC played home games in Thomond Park from 2013 to 2015 in the League of Ireland while the Markets Field was being redeveloped. The capacity of the stadium is 25,600 following its large-scale redevelopment in 2008.

Shannon Rugby Football Club is the most successful club in the All Ireland League, having won the competition nine times. They hail from Limerick near the banks of the Shannon river. The club is one of the top amateur sides in Ireland has seen many of its players progress to professional and international rugby. The 1st XV plays in Division 1B of the All-Ireland League. While the women's side compete in Division 1 of the Munster League. Shannon RFC fields underage teams for boys and girls from u6s - u20s. Shannon RFC made history in 2017 as being the first club in the country to field a girls u20s side.

George Clancy is an Irish rugby union referee. Clancy refereed at the 2011 and 2015 Rugby World Cups. He has also refereed in the Pro14, the European Rugby Champions Cup, the Six Nations Championship and the Rugby Championship. Clancy refereed the 2007 Churchill Cup final and the 2009 and 2011 European Challenge Cup finals. Between 2013 and 2017 Clancy also served as a touch judge/assistant referee at five consecutive European Rugby Champions Cup finals.

Patrick K. Collins is the current Assistant Head Coach at Greystones RFC in A.I.B League/Division 2. His previous role was as Youth Development Coach with Munster Rugby. He was appointed to the position in 2006 and worked primarily with the elite age grade players on the Munster Rugby Academy.

Owen Rhys Williams is a Welsh former rugby union player who played as a wing. Born in Blackwood, Caerphilly, he played for Blackwood RFC and Pontypridd RFC, as well as the Wales Sevens team.

The 2012–13 British and Irish Cup was the fourth season of the annual rugby union competition for second tier, semi-professional clubs from Britain and Ireland. The final was contest on 17 May 2013 and won by Leinster A with a 78th minute penalty by Noel Reid to beat Newcastle Falcons 18–17 at their home ground Kingston Park. The defending champions Munster A were eliminated in the semi–finals by the eventual winners and Bedford Blues was the other losing semi–finalists.

The 2013–14 British and Irish Cup was the fifth season of the annual rugby union competition for second tier, semi-professional clubs from Britain and Ireland. The CCB Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, Wales, is a sports facility located in and run by Caerphilly County Borough Council, South Wales. The Centre's facilities include a FIFA 2 star 3G Football Pitch, an IRB 22 ratified 3G Rugby Pitch, 2 conference rooms, a strength and conditioning room, medical & first aid rooms, a community room, 2 grandstands; 1 on each pitch and 2 balconies overlooking both pitches for performance analysis purposes.

Brendan Oliver Foley is an Irish former rugby union player, who played in the amateur era of the sport. He played primarily as a lock. Foley spent most of his club career with Shannon in Limerick and played at provincial level for Munster, starting in the team's famous victory over New Zealand in 1978. Foley also played internationally for Ireland, winning 11 caps between 1976 and 1981. Foley is the father of two Ireland rugby internationals Anthony Foley (1973–2016) and Rosie Foley.

The 2017–18 National League 1, known for sponsorship reasons as the SSE National League 1 is the ninth season of the third tier of the English rugby union system, since the professionalised format of the second tier RFU Championship was introduced; and is the 31st season since league rugby began in 1987.

George Gasson is a Welsh rugby union player who played for the Dragons regional team as a wing. He was also Wales under-20 international.

Joy Neville is a former Ireland women's rugby union international and rugby union referee. As a player, Neville represented Ireland at both the 2006 and 2010 Women's Rugby World Cups. In 2009 Neville captained the first Ireland team to defeat France. In 2013 she was also a member of the first Ireland women's team to win the Six Nations, Grand Slam and Triple Crown titles.
