Limerick is a city in western Ireland, in County Limerick. It is in the province of Munster and is in the Mid-West which comprises part of the Southern Region. With a population of 102,287 at the 2022 census, Limerick is the third-most populous urban area in Ireland, and the fourth-most populous city on the island of Ireland. It was founded by Scandinavian settlers in 812, during the Viking Age.
University of Limerick (UL) is a public research university institution in Limerick, Ireland. Founded in 1972 as the National Institute for Higher Education, Limerick, it became a university in September 1989 in accordance with the University of Limerick Act 1989. It was the first university established since Irish independence in 1922, followed by the establishment of Dublin City University.

The club is one of the top amateur sides in Ireland has seen many of its players progress to professional and international rugby. The 1st XV plays in Division 1A of the All-Ireland League. While the women's side compete in Division 1 of the Munster League. Shannon RFC fields underage teams for boys and girls from u6s - u20s. Shannon RFC made history in 2017 as being the first club in the country to field a girls u20s side.
The Mayor of Limerick is the head of the local government of the City and County of Limerick. It is a directly elected office with a five-year term. Following the 2024 Limerick mayoral election, John Moran was inaugurated as the first office-holder on 21 June 2024.
Oliver Moran is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Ahane and was a member of the Limerick senior inter-county team from 1997 to 2009. During his career as a hurler, he has won 3 County Championships with Ahane, 2 Fitzgibbon Cup titles with Waterford IT, a National Hurling League and Waterford Crystal Cup title with Limerick, 5 Railway Cup titles with Munster and a shinty/hurling international with Ireland. Ollie's individual accolades include a Munster All-Star award in 2004 and a GAA All-Star award in 2007. He was also captain of the Limerick Senior Hurling Team in 2005. In 2013 he appeared as a studio analyst on The Sunday Game.

Brendan Oliver Foley is an Irish former rugby union player, who played in the amateur era of the sport. He played primarily as a lock. Foley spent most of his club career with Shannon in Limerick and played at provincial level for Munster, starting in the team's famous victory over New Zealand in 1978. Foley also played internationally for Ireland, winning 11 caps between 1976 and 1981. Foley is the father of two Ireland rugby internationals Anthony Foley (1973–2016) and Rosie Foley.
Fionn McLoughlin is an Irish rugby union player. He has represented both Ireland and Wales at youth level. He plays centre, winger and fly half. He is the son of former Ireland and British Lions prop Gerry McLoughlin.
Brian Leddin is an Irish Green Party politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Limerick City constituency since the 2020 general election. He was appointed Chair of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action in September 2020, is a member of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine, and Chair of the Green Party's parliamentary party. He is the Green Party spokesperson for Transport, Energy and Climate Action.
Neasa Hourigan is an Irish Green Party politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin Central constituency since the 2020 general election. She was Chair of the Committee on Budgetary Oversight from September 2020 until being suspended from the parliamentary party in March 2023.
